Yesterday I went for my regular eye doctor's appointment. I go every year because macular degeneration not only runs in my family, it gallops. My father, grandmother, all great aunts and uncles, and some cousins have all lost eyesight to the dry form of macular degeneration. Yesterday my doctor found a "disruption" in my macula that is affecting my vision. I have an appointment with a specialist on Tuesday to find out what is going on. I need prayers first for the overwhelming fear I am experiencing. I am having a hard time coping with facing my worst nightmare nad I need to get it all together. Second, I need prayers that whatever this is, it is treatable and it is not the beginnings of dry macular degeneration or something worse.

Thanks, CM. I keep looking at the Abbie pictures you sent me to keep my spirits up.
Jean, I am willing to do whatever it takes to keep my eyesight for as long as I can. My biggest thing is that I haven't been taking the occuvite vitamins like I know I should. I went and got some yesterday and from today forward will be more consistant with them.

KYKat, prayers and white light for your eyes. Take those vitamins. I know it can be such a pain, but they will help. {{KYKAT}}

Prayers, hugs, white light...whatever it takes to help you through this, you've got it from me and I'm sure many others who haven't responded yet. Any medical problem always gets us to thinking the worst and worrying over what might happen. You have lots of love and support from here!

The research is helping my frame of mind. My symptoms are consistant with having a hole in my macula which is very treatable. Also reading up on dietary support for occular health to go with the new vitamins. I already knew about the leafy greens and carrots, but finding out that Goji berries are a good thing and that I need to switch to a low fat diet.

Prayers for you. I'm glad you are doing research and learning what you can do for prevention/delay of symptoms. My dad gets shots in eye,too. he is blind in the other becuase of diabetes... another reason I started the healthy lifestyle group. There is so much we can prevent or delay by what we do now. Do take care of you, KYK!

KyKat...I've learned from many of my TDK Family...You included...not to jump to conclusions before I have all my info in front of me. I know you must be scared,but,let your family here hold you tight till all your tests are in & there after. You know you have my Prayers. Keep us updated.

Sending prayers to you, KyKat. The hardest thing is having to wait for the appointment with the specialist - it's so easy to imagine yourself into a frenzy. That runs in my family, too. Has your doctor ever suggested that you take Lutein? My sister and I were told some years back to take that as a precaution.

WWM, I have known since dad was diagnosed in the 90's about taking the proper vitamins. My problem is I will get all enthused and start taking them and then not be consistant with it. I stopped yesterday and got a bottle of vitamins that support occular health and am going to the healthfood store later to get Gogi berry juice or supplements as well.
For lunch I went to the salad bar and loaded up with leafy greens and carrots.

I hate to admit this, KK (because it's a sign of becoming forgetful) but I had to set up one of those daily pill box thingies so that I would remember to take my pills. I leave it on the kitchen counter so that I can't possibly miss it. You would think that all of those vitamins might help my memory but sadly, no....

I have a handful of things that I take at night and never miss those, but it is remembering anything else... I have put my vitamins on the table so I will remember to take them with dinner. They don't have any iron in them so I think I will still need to take a multi with iron.

Kykat, you are most certainly in my prayers. I hope whatever it is, it's caught early, it should be, after all you've been very vigilant and aware...make sure they have a big, empty waiting room on Tuesday, might need extra chairs...
Low fat diet? You can still have chocolate, right?

KyKat, sending you lots of positive energy and hoping that this is an easily treatable problem. My mom has a form of macular degeneration also but not sure if it is hereditary - must check that out and pay attention to my vitamin intake also.
