  1. I feel so horrible. Last night the kittens were playing pounce on each other in bed...or pounce on my legs..not really sure which one, so after picking them up and telling them "NO." and putting them on the groudn they kept doing it. So I took them to the living room and closed the bedroom door.

This morning Charlie was playing with Zoe and I was about to head to work so I picked up Zoe and gave her a few cuddles and kisses and she was fine. Then i picked up CHarlie and tried to do the same and he was good at first then started swatting/wanting to bite my fingers. So I tried to hold him firmly by the neck and bottom (Facing me) as usual and tell him "No." Unfortunately he was a squirming a bunch and I ended up handling more rough than i wanted to :(. About 5 mintues later I went to give them a final little kiss/cuddle goodbye and give him a chin rub...he acutally shyed away from me a bit! Good news is I then picked him up and rubbed his tummy and chin rub and he was purring and ok. UGH I feel like a kitten abuser! BAh!

Should I just let him swat at me? Is that normal kitten behaviour?!

  2. It is normal but you must discourage it. The thing to do is speak a language he understands. Restrain him by putting him on a flat surface and or grab his forelegs so he cannot grab you Then gently hold him still and hiss like a cat. That is how his mother would say "NO!". Then give him a 5 minute time out. No pets but no negative attention just ignore him. After the time out you can offer him an appropriate toy to play with.

It will have to be repeated, the little predator is learning to hunt. You have to teach him that the toy is prey not your fingers.

  3. I jsut feel so horrible :( And he didn't do any of this until a friend of mine came over and played rough with him using her hands! UGH. Now it is so hard to get him out of the habit. So hard to be firm and discpline him because he is such a sweetie pie otherwise.

  4. M<ake sure that friends and family understand that teasing and playing rough are unacceptable. When my kits were babies and in that crazy attack mode, I had a stuffed panda that I would give them to play rough with. Never my fingers.

  5. I feel your pain. I actually WANT to play rough with my kitten, just because I grew up with dogs and thats what I'm used to doing. However I don't want him having the idea his whole life that my hands are fair game. I need to discipline myself more than him, cause often times I catch myself encouraging it.
