(13 posts)-
Omg what a BEAUTIFUL cat. I want one!! But I doubt I could get one in UK - well if you could in the UK probably have to have a license and pedigree forms. Its gorgeous though! I really really want a big cat.

I've checked out this cattery before--very impressive. But $22,000? Wow! I wouldn't want to clean those litterboxes!

Then again, the people who bought them obviously have servants to take care of that chore.

oh i saw this breed on some cats 101 show on animal planet a while back. i have always wanted one but there are several problems. i can't pay a breeder price when there are shelter kitties who need loving homes; but more importantly apparently that breed is illegal in the state of Georgia where I live here in the States. They are considered too close to their wild conterparts... It's sad really, i think they are gorgeous, and i would love to have my cat in the shower with me (it is known that they like water just like big cats).

http://svrescue.com/ is a savannah rescue site. Beautiful as these animals are they have all the issues of any designer breed and then some. They do not truly belong to one world or the other and do not automatically have the built-in genetic defect correction nature provides for future generations of a single species.
I think Ligers are magnificent but they suffer from a form of gigantism and the negative effects to their joints and muscles due to the mis-match in the parental genetic structure.
Bengals have had the house cat bread back into the gene pool to try to address the bad effects of the genetic mismatch of the original F1 crosses.
Look at the problems poor Melvin has and he doesn't have a species outcross in his background that we are aware of.
I would not want to punish the returned and abandoned Savannahs for the sins of the breeders that thought this was a good idea. But the demand needs to dry up to stop this type of exploitation of the Feline Family.
If you have the resources and must have a Savannah, go rescue.

I love Servals! They are gorgeous cats. I've always wanted a Savannah also, don't think I will ever get the chance to. Sigh... I'll just admire them from afar.
