  1. I am so shocked and saddened to announce the death of Callie. Her brother passed unexpectedly on the 26th of July, and Callie died the same death this morning. I am researching into it, since when she went to the vet a week ago she checked out fine. It all happened in 10 minutes and my husband tried to save her but was unable to.

I'll write a proper eulogy on this thread a little later. Right now I am numb and needing answers.

  5. I am so sorry for your losses. It is not fair when they die before they have even had a chance, but they knew they were loved.

  7. Thank you. I just can't fathom what took them as Tiger seemed so healthy before he went and Callie was doing awesome as well up until my husband found her this morning.

Everything I am reading includes other symptoms that were never seen in either of the kittens in the days leading up to thier deaths. All we know is that Callie was laying down in her pen (kept her safe from my dog who thinks he isn't as big as he is, and my kids) meowing and went into seizures. My husband picked her up and she became rigid and kept twitching (oh goodness here come the tears). He tried to keep her going so we could run her to the vet but she died before I could even load the kids in the car.

  20. KC - I am not sure what happened. I talked to my vet about it and even she is at a loss. She says sometimes she has seen older cats go like it, but without an autopsy she would never be able to say for certain what it was.

Everyone - Thanks so much for being here for me thru the rough week and 1/2 I have had with my furbabies. I appreciate your kind words and thoughts. I am beating myself for not having more pix of her and Tiger, but they were hard to catch on camera! I am trying to put together some additional pictures on Catster and will post a link here.

The hardest part is I know it wasn't sudden and I am pretty sure it wasn't painless for the sweet babies. Poor kits had suffered enough with the abandonment by Mama Cat and the subsequent 2 days following when they were left alone under the house. Part of me wants to blame the people who contacted me to care for them, for leaving them there so long when they were so young (the heat was horrible on July 3&4 when they were alone down there), but I knew they felt they were doing the right thing by giving Mama a chance to come back for them.

Second favorite picture of Callie, she was obviously being camera shy:

These both were taken on her "1-month B-Day"

  24. The pics of Callie are very cute SF, I know how hard it is to get the little guys on camera! She was a little beauty, she and Tiger certainly knew your love for them during their short lives...

  25. I am very sorry for your lose. You have been through so much with both of them. Remember that they are not in pain and are together. Prayers of peace and comfort.

  26. I'm sorry for your loss too. It does sound like there were some health issues going on with both kittens, so don't feel like you failed them. They knew plenty of love in their short lives. You did your best for them; that is what counts.

  30. Snowflower, so sorry to hear of your double loss. It's always hard when one of our furbabies leaves us, especially when they are so young. You'll be in our prayers tonight.
