Puddytat needs some advice!

  1. I brought Hadley into the house last night to live. All shots, worming and flea/heartworm treatments have been completed. I gave him a bath, clipped his nails and cleaned his ears. I am a little worried, the little boy does not seem to be very happy. Wilbur and T-Do are ignoring him and have not shown any aggressive tendencies at all. They smelled him and were curious but nothing else. I sat with him on my lap for several hours last night and he finally went to sleep. Later he did eat and went in his cat box. (I brought the one from outside into the kitchen) He has chosen to "camp out" in one of the kitty beds under the coffee table. No purring at all. He did eat and drank a whole bunch of water out of the fountain. I played with the feather teaser with them and all joined in. It was pretty cute. Once he had settled for the night I went upstairs to bed around midnight. This morning I was up a bit late so I only was able to give him a brief cuddle and give Wilbur his meds. Then off to work. At lunch I came home to spend time with him and he had pooped in the far corner of the livingroom. I'm sure he knows where the boxes are but maybe he was confused. After work today he justs seems sad. He did eat and I held him for a while...then back to the bed under the coffee table. Should I be concerned? I have not had a new kit in the house for over 5 years. I have never "added" a kit. Wilbur and T-Do were my first kits since I was a child. Am I going to have to put him back in the yard with Ripley and his mom (Miss Kitty)? Is it normal for him to be so subdued? How long should I wait before I make a decision. He is due for his "spa" day either this weekend or the next. He was born on May 6. Any advice would really be appreciated. I want to do the right thing for this little baby.

  2. I forgot another question...should I put him in the litter box??

  3. Oh, poor little boy. He's scared and lonely without his outside family and he will need time to adjust. Yes, put him in his litter box after meals and scratch with his paws to show him what to do. Feral kittens have been taught by their mums that human beings are NOT to be trusted so it will take a while, but regular food, treats, gentle talking to him all the time, spending time with him in the same room whenever possible (you don't have to be interacting with him, just so that he's got time to get used to you) and teaching him to play with a catdancer or something will be the best ways to get him to realise he's landed on his feet. The first time he purrs for you will be a breakthrough and a triumph! and it shouldn't take too long... Bless you for doing this for him!

Ooh, meant to add, gentle rubs behind the ears and long gentle strokes under the chin are good ways to get a purr machine going (eventually)...
