smelly cats!

  1. Hi! My newly arrived fosters got good reviews from their last foster home, except she said they have bad gas. Now, I know she was not feeding them the best food in the world (Friskies fish flavor) and I'm hoping a diet switch will nip the problem in the bud before I experience it :) Anyone with experience with gassy kittens (these are 3 months olds) who can suggest some good foods? I only have them for a week, so I don't have too much time to experiment. I realize there is the possibility it could be a parasite or something but I'm hoping it's just the food thing. Thanks! Me and my schnozz are grateful!

  2. Two of my cats at about that age had horrible gas. By 5 or 6 months it seems to just go away.

  3. Do not change their diet abruptly, you could make matters worse. A good brand of a similar food mixed 50/50 may help. Make sure they have plenty of water. Do not offer cows milk.

  4. I don't ever use it but why is everyone against this Friskies brand?

  5. Sinperian, don't think Friskies is terrible ot anything, just probably not a quality brand. Maybe a lot of grains and additives? I have friends who have raised healthy cats on it for years, so I think it just depends on the cat. My fosters were getting fish flavor though, and I know that fish/seafood can give cats loose stools. Keeping my paws crossed, but so far have not smelled gas on the last cans of Triumph I had lying around. Bought them some Innova today and we'll see how they do. Thanks everyone for the help.

  7. LOL. My 4-week old kitten has just recently been weaned on Friskies. Tried looking for Eukanuba and Royal Canine but couldn't find any (I live in a very small university town) here so I had to settle for Friskies. No sign of smelly poo or gas (do they fart all that much?) and I'm hoping it'll stay that way. Will be taking a 4hr drive back home this weekend with her and the only scent I want to smell if that of my car air-freshener.

  10. My Kensho has had terrible gas. Smells so bad it can peel the wallpaper off almost! He was 2 months when I got him; it is getting better now that he is almost four months. So I do think this is something that might just go away on its own.
