The Pain of Being a Redhead

(7 posts)
  1. Hi, I'm Airyshone and I'm a redhead :)
I can agree with this story, I have needed extra doses at the dentist and once when I was a kid getting a filling (I didn't have a cavity, it was a preventative filling) the nurse didn't believe me when I said it still hurt. Traumatization I tell you.
But it's not for all anesthetics, I'm overly sensitive to others such as pseudoephedrine which used to be in formula 44. Knocks me out for the count.

  2. Whew! I thought my careless remarks on the NZ Holidays thread might have cruelly traumatised all the redheads in the joint... What a relief to find this is not the case...

  3. Airy on Tixylix baby cough medicine was a sight to behold. She was as high as a kite, dopey and off the wall then over and out into dreamland.
I have no problem with dental pain and I refused to have pain shots mainly because I had a fear of needles. cured that fear by working in a lab then I would get the shots. I don't think I'm more sensitive to pain either, more the other way for me or maybe it's just because I've lived with arthritis pain for so many years that I can block out pain now.
LOL Jcat, it would take more than that to traumatise a redhead, we're tough cookies, you have to be growing up with red hair.

  4. They have on my medical records to give extra sedation. When I had gallbladder surgery the guy didn't believe the chart and said this will knock you out. He gave me the drug in the IV and then he and I had a lovely conversation--he went and did another shot--took 3 to knock me out. I have been hard to sedate and as for the dentist unless it is a root canal he doesn't use novicaine because it takes more shots and time than it is worth. Personally I think I have a fairly high tolerance for pain--get that from Mum!
