  1. Okay the vet is being a twat on the phone and was like - he is 12 days old not much we can do yadda yada

It seems Binx is choking or has something in his air ways , he has already spat out some fluid - I need help what do I do!

  2. Call another vet. Unless you can see what is choking the kitten, you can do nothing. Take him to an emergency clinic and if necessary make a scene.

  3. We only have one emergency vet number in this area, its different vet surgery each weekend and the others have the weekend off. I cant get hold of any other vet

please how can I encourage Binx to get this off his chest, rub his back? hold him upside down? Please I think we're losing him - he cant meow and theres like a fluid rattling in his chest....

  4. Just got the vet on the phone again he said 'Oh you could try rubbing his chest that might help but by the sounds of his meow he is gasping for air and may soon die' OMG please help I dont want to lose him

  5. You can try. Keep his airway clear and you could try a modified Heimlich. Hold your knees together and place him on your thighs in the crack with his head slanting down and push gently under the ribcage.

  6. Nothing is happening, he keeps opening his mouth - looks like he is trying to get something out but nothing please please

  7. Could he have aspirated formula? Jade, you really need to get Binx to a vet right away.

  8. The vet said he could do nothing - it was the only emergency vet on in this area. he told us that what we might try could be useless - I think Binx put his head back too far when he started chewing the teat of the bottle....... I'm shaking I dont want to lose him please

  9. Keep trying to help him clear his lungs. Try to keep his head lower than his lungs. All I have left is pray.

  10. Ok, ok. Just relax, sounds like he did aspirate some milk into his lungs. Can you look in his mouth and see if there is anything stuck in there you could pull out? Please don't panic, Binx will be able to tell. Try to "gently" pat his back to help him cough it up.

  11. I have no experience with this, Jade - I'm so sorry. But I can't imagine a vet refusing to see him and saying that there's nothing he can do.

  12. Pulled out my cat first aid book. It says if you can hear breathing that is a good sign, if it is labored. "try putting you hands on either side of the widest part of his chest while he is standing and gibe 3-4 firm gentle compressions. If it is a very small pet position its back up against your stomach with his head and feet hanging down. Fit your fist into the soft small ge hollow beneath his rib cage and pull in and up toward your belly and chin with a strong thrusting action. See a veternarian IMMEDIATELY!"

  13. He said because he is 12 days old and hand reared his immune system and stuff is not good and he could hear him gasping for air on the phone and actually told Luke 'it sounds like he will be dead soon'

Luke is trying to open his mouth but coz he is so small he cant get it open - he looks like he is trying to spew something out

  14. What I want to say is none to fluffy, that vet is AWFUL!

  15. If you gently press on the sides of Binx's mouth can you get it open?

Posted 2 years ago by WillowandWindismom #

  16. yes we can get it open
Nothing appears to be in there

And yes that is another awful vet that should be working in the supermarket instead

  17. Its just real gooey in his mouth, his mouth feels freezing cold....

  18. I just don't know but I am thinking that he could have aspirated his formula and that he now has fluid in his lungs. In a person that would require suctioning but I just don't know in a baby kitten. I wish that I knew something to tell you.

  19. I think he is dying .. hes doing the same face as missy and screaching and everything I cant bloody handle this - Luke is trying to rub it out of him and do the heimlich

  20. if he aspirated, the vet NEEDS to see him! Binx hang in there! He needs to be suctioned and given an IV! Come on baby, don't leave mom and dad! Praying!

  21. Wouldn't mouth-to-mouth help at a time like this?

Posted 2 years ago by Dee #

  22. Have you tried mouth-to-mouth breathing, Jade? You have to be sure to cover his mouth and nose with your mouth and gently try to blow some air into his lungs.

Posted 2 years ago by WillowandWindismom #

  23. yes, yes, mouth to mouth! i would do it in a heartbeat for my babies!

    Posted 2 years ago by mollycat71 #

  24. OMG I just saw this, I am praying for Binx, he is such a little fighter. That vet is a callous idiot....I am hoping mouth to mouth is working. {{{JADE AND LUKE}}}

  26. getting worried, no word or update on Binx

    Posted 2 years ago by mollycat71 #

  27. OMG, just logged on...sounds like he may have aspirated into his lungs. You could try the equivalent of a mini Heimlich maneuver, but truthfully that will not get liquid out. What he needs is an emeregency vet to provide oxygen and antibiotics (to prevent pneumonia) and monitor breathing.
    Praying very hard.....

  28. Oh, this is so sad, and I have no clue what to do!

Posted 2 years ago by katthays #

  29. I don't know about you guys..but I found it pretty upsetting that with all the info on rearing and feeding newborn kittens...and all the talk of aspirating milk into the lungs..I didn't find any information on how to help get the milk out of the lungs once it gets in there. I hope that Binx will survive this. =(

Posted 2 years ago by Karenopa #

  30. Karen, that's because there really is nothing that you can do except provide supportive care: oxygen, antibiotics, artificial breathing if needed, IV fluids or tube feedings until recovered . Once you have fluid in the lungs you really just have to wait for the body to reabsorb them and hope that it can recover. The initial treatments remove only any extra fluid left in mouth or upper airway, not anything that is already in the lungs.
    Continued prayers....
