I am getting a new kitten, just one sadly and I would like to know which brand is the best. The foster mother of this kitten has been feeding the kittens Purina Kitten Chow. I would love to get some input on what the best brand of cat food are out there?

What is the best brand for kitten/cat food?

The best brand of food out there is EVO, Wellness CORE, or Nature's Variety Instinct. Dry food is okay for cats but it results in too many health problems. Wet food is way healthier for cats and is much closer to what they would eat naturally. Raw is the ultimate food for cats but it takes time and knowing what you are doing to get it right.
Avoid foods with by-products, corn, wheat, soy, BHA/BHT, beef tallow, vague terms such as fish meal (salmon meal yes, fish meal no), or basically any other food that would not be meant for carnivores.

Fancy Feast now has a dry food that my 6 month old Akasha LOVES! It runs 2.14 at walmart for the smallest bag and like 6 for the bigger one. Like I said my kitten seems to love it. best bet is to find what is good for your lil baby...some kittens are picky (Akasha is) and will refuse some foods. So experiment and find what is healthy for her and something she likes...GOOD LUCK and welcome to the new mommy!

The best I found was Royal Canin "baby cat" for 0-4 months ! Its a little more expensive but its worth it !! Its really tiny so it also was a good help in the weaning process.

my bindi is at 14 weeks now, but she was started on dry food at the shelter. no matter what, she prefers wet food and the vet (along with lots of other car owners and lovers) all insist that a kitten should get a lot of daily water intake from wet food, so i stick with as much canned food as possible and leave out kitten chow for snacking.
bindi got kitty diarrhea from most of the commercial brands we tried her on, but now she eats Ivvanova cat and kitten food. where i buy it, it's $20 for a 24 can case, and bindi now goes through 1.5 cans a day plus half a can of cat's milk. thankfully, her digestive problems have been resolved because of this switch. incidentally, her behavioral issues have also gotten better in that she's much more happy and alive and less aggressive and surly than when we first got her.
