Hello Everyone!! I hoping someone can help me. I have 3 two day old kittens that were found when they were still wet and have been in my care since. (Very long story) I have talked to multiple rehab ladies and have had very good advice from everyone, except that I am very worried... 2 of the 3 have not pooped. They are all very active though, urinate after every feeding, and neither of them seem to be in discomfort. The one that has pooped only has once a day (today being there 3rd day is today). One lady told me not to worry yet, while others say I need to do something... I tried mineral oil (2 drops), wipe with a wet washcloth, rub on their bellies, and still nothing. They are in an incubator, get fed every 2 hours 2.5 cc of replacer and have clean bedding 2-3 times a day. To top it off I live in a very rural area and the vets that we do have around are of no help. :-( If anyone has any ideas or knowledge on how long these babies can go I would be BEYOND grateful. Thank you so much!!! -Kimberly

Kimberly, I have no experience with hand-raised babies but wanted to welcome you to TDK. There are others here who have a lot of experience and advice to offer and so we will try to keep your thread "bumped" up. It can be awfully quiet on the weekends but there will be lots of people here tomorrow who might be able to help you.
The only thing that I do know is that you have to stimulate these babies to pee and poop. I'm sure that you already knew that and I wish that I had more to offer.
Please stay with us and others will be here to help!

i recently found my to babies when the were just born. they pooped fine at first but when they were a week old they decided to get constipated. i had to take both of the to the vets for enemas twice (one week apart) and now their bowels are developed enough that they no longer have issues. me marley and remmy prays for poopie for you.

Thank you! I will see if I can get either of the vets in our very small town to help me with maybe an enema... Thank you for your prayers and best of luck with Marley and Remmy babies!!!

To anyone who is trying to hand raise a kitten, or kittens, it is extremely important.

I personally had to spend at least 10 minutes stimulating Callie after each feeding and she only went poo maybe once every couple of days...Tiger on the other hand was a poopin' machine!
Thier bowels at such a young age are not fully developed and may take alot of patience and different techniques to get them in the habit of pooing for a human. Different kittens like different ways of stim. I have found. Like one would only poo if I rapidly stroked only downwards; one preferred I use a cotton ball up and down; I even had a kitten that would only poo after a gentle belly massage, a cotton ball face bath, and then a 10 minute genital stimulation (that would be Callie!).
You can also try gently taking thier temp (vasoline or OTC lubrication on a digital thermometer inserted just past the metal part). Sometimes that gets them going quicker than you can say "Oh my, kitty poo'd on the thermometer!"
I wouldn't worry though, too much, as long as they are suckling; as long as their belly doesn't get firm; and as long as they are urinating regularly. Kits can go for days with no ill effect from not pooing (a kitten I fostered that we adopted from the Humane Society I fostered him for, went 4 or 5 days without pooping and had no ill effects).

Thank you thank you!!! That makes me feel SO much better. I tried and tried last night and still nothing. They will be 3 days old today around noon, so maybe today will be the day! And yes, they are still very "excited" for feedings and their little bellies seem soft, so fingers crossed everything will be ok. They have another feeding in a little while so I'm gonna try to stimulate for longer, different directions and see how it works and also the thermometer trick I think. Thank you again so much!!!

THANK YOU everyone for all your advice, thoughts and prayers... I think the thermometer was the trick because ALL three kittens have pooped multiple times today! YAY!! (who'd have ever thought such a simple thing could be so exciting!) We just continue to pray that things remain good here and THANK YOU AGAIN to everyone!!!

Hi I am new here too and guess I am also caught up in the kitty poo department. Hand raising female kitten I think about 2 weeks give or take a day or so. Eyes were just opening when Mom left her behind a week ago today. Sigh. She is also constipated. She finally did poo four half inch logs. Poor thing. Feeding her the formula from the vet. She wants to eat and is active. But I bet she still is constipated. And YES I was so excited to see anything I had to take it into show my husband. He was not so excited about it as I was.
I am heading off to bed now as she has already had her feeding and I am afraid to over stress her. Hope she continues to go. Was wondering if more water in the mixture would help her? She does not seem dehydrated at all.
Maybe something added to the formula might help to soften things up?
Thanks Chris

Thank You Madcatwoman. I checked out the video's and gave it a try this morning. Guess she unloaded last night but will continue to do it that way from now on. She is more active this morning and walked out of her kennel. Wants lots of loving and food.
MissMaggie Elizabeth was the name I gave my pet baby cow. Heheheheh She had a pretty beauty spot on her cheek like Elizabeth T. Afraid to say the whole name and get myself in trouble. And NO we do /did not eat our cows. I milked them or sold them for breeding.

Well since we celebrate kitten poop get your party hats on. Hehehe She has had another movement. Still a hard old thing but she was able to get it out all by herself. Was in her little kennel when I went to feed her a little bit ago. The vet said to add a little more water to the formula I got from them when I mix it to see if that will help.
She is strong and when I was feeding her and worried she was drinking too fast and tried to pull the bottle away to give her a breath she grabbed it with both hands and hung on for dear life. Made me laugh.
Tomorrow we have to travel with her all day a couple hundred miles and lots of waiting around. Going to have to pack a baby case to go. I am a bit concerned but do not have any one to leave her with. Wish us luck and no car sickness.
