Hello all. I feel like a broken record talking about the same things again..but..I did a post a few days ago about my new 3 month old kitten, Ziggy and his upper respitory infection. Tomorrow will be day four of taking his meds...hes not sneezing as much as he was, and is still eating and drinking. I'm still worried.....is it bad that he's still sneezing and coughing a bit? Also I just read a thread where someone had to put their cat to sleep due to FIP. :( It made me wonder, I read the symtoms and now I'm even more nervous bc one of the symptoms is a pot-bellied stomach. When I took Ziggy to the vet, he said he had a pot-belly and it was due to worms, and then gave me a deworming pill. Another symtom is light mucus membranes (such as the gums) Which thankfully his are pink. I did find a worm, so he def has them. But now, I can't help but wonder....FIP? They tested him for feline lukemia and that was negative thank god..would this test also include FIP or is that a separate test?? Maybe I am just reading too much into this and making myself nervous...I'm just so worried for my little man

FIP???!

How long ago did Ziggy get the dewormer? I would call Ziggy's doctor when the office opens to see how long the antibiotics and dewormer take to work. My foster babies, Kissie and Suzie, had a mild URI and after only 24 hours on the meds the sneezing and discharge were gone (but Ziggy may be on a different antibiotic than my girls so it may just work differently). You can also ask about FIP when you call, though it most likely is just the URI because the other symptoms have either been explained or are not there.
I hope Ziggy feels better soon, and I hope your worries are eased if and when you call the vet.

I remember your previous question,I would ask the vet about Clavamox solution,it has always worked better for my animals than Baytril. The liquid is easier to give.
About FIP,it is a sign of a good meowmy to be researching and wondering but most kittens just have a big tummy from worms, the symptoms of FIP are kind of vague and generic so it's kind of scary to look it up but very few kittens have it,they look for that in very sick cats after they don't respond to anything. You can always ask your vet about that.
And never worry about asking questions or for help or anything here,we care about our people here and of course, their babies. Let us know please when you hear something. [[[Hugs]]]
Oh and wow!!! Ziggy is adorable!!! :) -
Unfortunately, there is no test for FIP. It's a diagnosis of elimination (if it's nothing else, it must be FIP). I had a kitten die of FIP 19 months ago. He lasted a little over a month in my care. I got him at 8 weeks old, and he got sick right after his first set of vaccinations. It's a sad disease, but he didn't suffer.

one of the ways that my vet at the time checked for FIP was to pull liquid from the pot belly of the kitten and if it is yellowish and nasty looking then it is an indication of FIP. My kitten always had clear liquid in his belly
