I have a 1-3 yr. old kitten that was found last night. I would like to know what to feed it. I can't go get kitten formula, no transportation. I have regular milk, as well as baby formula. I do have a small syringe. Any help is appreciated!!

HELP!! 1-3 week old kitten

Hi, SweetCM, I assume you mean 1-3 weeks old? Please don't feed the kitten regular milk, it can't digest it and it will probably give it diarrhoea, which can dehydrate a young kitten very quickly and be dangerous. These are some useful kitten care sites: :

http://www.feralcat.com/raising.htmlI'm not sure if they mention an emergency formula but I'll try to find you a recipe -- however, this is only a stopgap. You REALLY NEED kitten replacement formula, do you have a neighbour, friend or family member who could help get it to you?
Yes! The first website gives you emergency recipes for formula and says you can also use human baby formula, made up to double strength (or it won't give kitty all he/she needs). Feed the kitty the right way up (NOT on its back like a human baby -- this is dangerous), so all four legs are pointing down. If kitty chokes, and you think s/he has aspirated milk into their lungs (this can happen), hold kitten gently upside down until it stops choking and get to a vet ASAP. Please also check the info on keeping kitty warm and comfortable. They cannot regulate their own body heat at this age and would normally have mum and littermates to cuddle up to, so a hot water bottle (not too hot) wrapped in a towel in a box is a good idea, with enough room so baby can crawl off if it gets too hot. You will also need to stimulate baby to urinate and poop, the websites explain how.
You are a star for doing this, please check back for more answers from other TDKers and to let us know how you are getting along! We worry about the kitties on this site. Good luck!
