You may remember that I volunteer for a local cat rescue. A few months ago I started cleaning for one of the foster homes they have. There are 22 cats that I spend time with everyday. One of the cats is an older cat named Cubbie. She was rescued from an abusive home about 10 years ago. She was very shy and very sweet. Cubbie has always had health issues but was always available for a head bonk or a cuddle.
A few weeks ago she started to decline further. She lost weight and wasn't really interested in eating. Her appearance was disturbing to me because I had never seen a sick cat up close. A blood test showed she had an infection. Antibiotics and fluids were administered. She was even force fed. Cubbie wasn't getting better.
The decision was made to help Cubbie to the Bridge. I saw her this morning. She was unconscious and barely breathing. I knelt down to caress her sweet little head. I told her how beautiful she is and thanked her for letting me get to know her. I told her she would see her kitty friends like Little Bear, Pippen, Tilly and Jackson. I told her to ask for C.C. when she gets to the Bridge. I told her about Jiggs and Shadow, Andi the Tailess Wonder, Tristan, Himmie and Macy. I told her about Parfait, Binx and Missy. I told her about Jerry, Terri and Ben, too. I rubbed her paw and told her to have a safe journey. A few minutes later...Cubbie took a last breath.
I had never seen an animal die. I don't have the words to describe the experience. I do know Cubbie is in a better place and has a load of new friends to play with.
I've learned a lot from your experiences and it has helped me accept and deal what was happening and happened to Cubbie. Thanks TDK family.

Oh Teresa...I'm sorry for the passing of this sweet girl. I think you're so wonderful to have spent such gentle moments with her upon her crossing. There is such sadness in saying goodbyes, especially to the ones who show the ravages of time but she takes your everlasting love with her and the pain is at an end. Prayers for little Cubbie's peace 'n' everlasting joy beyond the bridge. ((((Teresa)))) ((((Sweet Cubbie))))

Teresa, you made sure she knew love at the end of her sad life. I know how hard it is to see any of them die, but it's a part of life and love. {{{HUGS}}}

{{{Teresa}}} I am so sorry to hear about Cubbie, she is at the Bridge now and out of her suffering. Your post struck a chord with me, last year we had to put down our beautiful German Shepherd Sheba...she was 12 years old and in poor health for quite some time beforehand. We rescued her at the age of two from an abusive home. It was my very first time being there during the "procedure", you are right - words cannot describe the feelings you have. I am blessed that I got to be with her and held her at the end but the pain of looking into her sweet eyes is like a lump in my chest that never quite goes away.

I'm so sorry about Cubbie. Don't be surprised if you're the main person she is waiting to see on the Rainbow Bridge. You were such a comfort to her, and she'll rush there to befriend you when it's time.

I am sorry about Cubbie but it seems that in her last years she was in a good foster situation and where she encountered you who helped her feel loved and happy. That was so beautiful to talk to her as she was getting ready to pass with her being unconscious. She will remember you as you remember her. Hugs to you Teresa.

Teresa, I am so sorry Cubbie crossed over the bridge today, and I know it was hard for you. Just remember you were there to help her cross and told her about all the kitties who will be waiting for her arrival. I lit a candle for her here:

Thank you everyone for your comforting words and the candles. Cubbie was also loved by the foster mom and the rescue director. The foster mom had lost her very special kitty in December. We had several discussions about death and what comes next. I'm glad I went to see Cubbie. If I was 10-15 minutes later, I would have been too late. I'm glad she is in a better place now and she is not suffering. Thanks again. ((((((((TDK family)))))))))))
