  1. Ok, its that time of the year, the girls need to go to the vet for their checkup and shots. Problem is, I can't catch them to put them in their carriers. They are like catching greased pigs. They are somewhat wild and do not like to be picked up or held. They just "know" when it is time. I get one in the carrier and then try to put the other in and the first one slips out. I even locked the three of us in the bathroom last year and thought that would work, it didn't. I ended up crying and never got them in the carrier. So, no vet visit last year. Does anyone know a better way to catch them so they don't hide in the basement or squirm out. I really need to get them checked and get their boosters. I just can't keep re-scheduling their appointments time and time again. The vet knows they are hard to catch and always teases me about it. I want this to be as calm a process as possible. Any ideas would be welcome.

  2. MC, are you trying to put them into one carrier? If they are already hard to catch, I would think that would be impossible. I would think you'd need two carriers, so once one is caught, they stay caught.

Anncetera always had good advice about carriers. I wish I could remember exactly what she said.

  3. Amy, I know it's more trouble, but, what about scheduling individual appointments on consecutive days? That way you only have to 'catch' one of them at a time ;-)

  4. Do you have a mobile vet in your area? They cost a little more but all you have to do is trap the cat(s) in your bathroom. When the vet comes s/he will help corral the little tykes and put them in cages so that they can be transported to the vetmobile where the actual shots, exam, etc. take place.

  5. Well MC i'd say one to a carrier! Second same day is fine! Means only one vet visit on the overall bill! Plus my suggestion! i have always left the carriers out and open and with comfy blankets int hem to encourage them to nap in them! This helps me greatly! When that doesn't I bribe with treats hahah once they go in hand to butt and push heheh and then close quick!

  6. No mobile vets in the area. I think its funny as they won't both be in the bathroom with me at the same time. One will come in and the other will lay in the hall. Then the first goes in the hall and the other one comes in.

  7. I agree that two carriers would be far better than one or two seperate appts. but that would likely cost more. Maybe FF can help you?? =)

  8. I have greased pigs here too MC..but they each do have their own carrier..it does make it much easier.

  9. OOH! Karen don't get me started on that one! I want to go kitten-nap his cat and take it to the vet. It is peeing and pooping all over the house and NOT in the box. I told him it probably has a UTI but he won't take him to the vet. He said he is just doing it to make him (FF) mad. I told him if that is in fact the case I will pay for the visit, it it is a UTI, he can pay. He hasn't taken me up on the offer yet.

  13. MC, I'd definitely do two carriers. Last week when I took the boys to XBF's for the day, I snuck Mi in the bathroom and put him in the carrier in there. This way Bobby didn't know what was going on. I then left Mi in the carrier in the bathroom and went and caught The Bobster who was totally unsuspecting.

  14. Uh Oh...You go for it MC...Catnap that cat of his and take it to the vet. Tell FF that your TDK family says...UTI...His kitty is displaying typical behavior for it. You can take turns taking the kits all in! =)

LOL...That was very tricky and smart GD!! Well done! =D

  15. Karen, the boys were not happy, but it worked! I had Mi trapped with nowhere to go in the bathroom, so eventually I was bound to get him in that carrier!

  16. By the way, after Bobby peed on me (!)this time and peed in his carrier last time we drove to the vet, I'm thinking of getting him a short leash thing (like Taco has, because Bobby's is a regular leash for a small dog) and putting that on him. Then he can just roam in the car while we drove. I'm thinking he would be okay.

  17. GD get the H harness from petsmart and a lead! WOuld be far better then a leash on the collar plus is more secure! Or you could jsut get one of the kit pouch bags to carry him around like a baby heheheh!

  18. I have no solutions, mc...I have the same problem! The carrier is always out and is slept in, but the door is off. As soon as any of them here the clangy door, they're off like they were shot out of a cannon!

  19. I personally would like to get a stroller myself. Because if max and Mystie get much bigger there's no way I will be able to carry them both at the same time heheheh! If I had a stroller I could just wheel them around but I'd need one that Is quick and easy to assemble and lay flat as well as the soft crate in my back of the car with max and Mystie on the leads and harnesses liek i did for vacation! If they were out of the soft crate then had their harnesses and leads on. Actually I b=never took the harnesses off whiel on vacation just checked them daily to see if I needed to let them out hehehe!

  20. Linda I leave the door on I jsut use a mini bungee to keep the soor propt open so they never no what hits them heheh! Though this morning Mystie put up one hell of a fight to get back in there after vacations long 7 hour drive home hahah but the funny part! As soon as I opene dit for her to get into after the vet visit she couldn't wait to jump in hahahha!

  21. GD, Grommet loves to ride on my lap when she's in the car; she puts her front paws on the steering wheel and just looks out all the windows like she's really in charge of the whole trip! As long as there is no heavy traffic or a long trip, I let her ride that way.... Wish I'd had a passenger with a camera to take pics of some of the looks we get from the other cars ;-)

  22. Awwww, that's so cute, KM!!!!

Ange, Bobby doesn't like the harness. We've tried several times and different kinds and he just flops over and won't go anywhere. I felt bad because he so enjoys going out and is alright with the leash. Instead we compromised and got him a non-breakable collar. Works for us. He never tries to run anyway, when he's on the leash.
I've been putting Mi in the harness and he freaks out so much he won't even go outside. He runs and hides under the ottoman with harness and leash. I leave the door open for the 45 min to an hour Bob and I are outside, but he won't come out.

  26. Awwww..GD..Poor Milo! Good idea to trap him in the bathroom first. I can't believe Bobby peed on you? I wonder what that was all about?

Posted 2 years ago by Karenopa #

  27. The thing is as soon as they are locked in the carrier they are snoring. They sleep the whole way to the vet and are angels when we get there. Its just getting them in the kitty carrier!
