  1. That's funny that they relax once they're inside it! Are you sure they aren't fainting? Hahaha! Poor Betty and Wilma. Bribery might help! It's worth a try.

  2. I used to hate trying to catch Spike to get him in the carrier when they went to the cattery. I had to try and corral him, pick him up and then miniKK would suddenly appear with the carrier - tipped on its end - and I'd drop him in tail first. I'd ususally get Dara in first with no problems so she'd end up with Spike being dropped on top of her! So far, Ringo hasn't been a problem but he was only kitten sized last time. Next time could be different. I would go with the recommendation of borrowing FF's carrier.

  3. KK...That's a really clever way to load them in! I'd never have thought of that. I'll remember that one next time someone gets dragged kicking and hissing to a vet visit. =)

  4. I've noticed that cats "grow" extra legs, heads and tails when you are trying to put them in a carrier. Patches used to brace all her feet about the door and arch back it was really interesting getting her in a carrier. Once in the car she would start hyperventilating.

  5. Awww, poor Patches! My guys usually give up when we make it to the car. Mi cries a lot and Bobby may make a meow sound every now and then, but that's it. Of course since they were both in the car the other day, they were commiserating and taking turns crying and answering eachother. I had XBF on the phone and he was getting a kick out of them.

  7. I usually take one kit per carrier. First put/hide carrier in bathtub open end up, then I corral #1 cat to bathroom/keep door closed at all times!...put on harness...put in carrier! Repeat with #2 cat on different day only to keep things more calm around the "ranch"!

  8. I take each on separate days---their shots are on a different schedule--months apart. I always take the carrier out the day before, and watch them as they try to figure out who is going to be the victim. It's always a hassle, even with the end up routine. The only time they go in willingly is when we are done at the vet--then they can't get in fast enough! Too bad too---I would get a multi-cat discount if I could get two on the same visit. Last time I got Sheba in, Patches strolls by and looks at her as if saying "Ha-Ha, it's YOU and not ME!"

  9. Talk to you r vet and see about getting some sedatives that you can put into their food on vet day. If they are sleepy they might be easier to catch.

  10. I just thought of something--"Rescue Remedy"--you put it in their water. I'll have to get some and give it a try.

  11. My vet lets me have the multicat discount even though they have always gone on different days.

  12. I have two cat carriers but I leave the larger one out in my bedroom off to the side. It is one of these (I think I got either the medium or the large):

    http://www.petco.com/product/2615/The-Original-Sherpa.aspx

I leave the door open to it and since it has a nice fleece (fake lambs wool) in it, Sylvester actually takes to sleeping in it from time to time. I put Sylvester in first into his carrier (he struggles a little but I can usually get him in it). Then with Mia, I have to have the carrier out and ready as I have to pick her up and put her in it fast before she squirms out of my arms. Once they get to the car, they start meowing. Sylvester does these timid soft meows and Mia does loud meows. I feel bad but I want to make sure they are healthy. Some vets will do a discount on the second kitty but the place I went to last doesn't do that. I am not happy with the vets in my area but hate to put my cats through a 30 minute drive to get to the one that only allows cats to be administered to.

MC, can you put their favorite toys in the carrier and leave the carrier out so that they get use to it and don't see it as so much as a threat? Also, as other suggested, would consider getting a second carrier.

  13. I usually just leave the cat carrier around the corner. My cats always wonder in because curiosity gets the best of them. Then I come sneaking out and close the door.

  14. Know what ya mean SMM! Mystie is the Mia type! Loud long marathon meowing until she realizes moms not letting he rout then she lays down and cat naps occassionally trying again. I give her credit she is persistent heheh! Max makes a few I talk to him he quiets and enjoys the ride. the trip up and back on vacation was funny! max stole Mysties carrier to sleep and ride in but when she'd meow he'd make a squeaky meow. i swear he was mimicing her because she was annoying him hahah!

Though they road togethe ris the large soft crate for 6 hours without killing each other more them i hoped for since mom and I was worried since they usually weren't together for more then 30 minutes to an hour!

    Did me proud they did!

  17. I used to have a terrible time trying to get Shadz in the carrier. She would kick and bite and scratch and the vet was never quite sure who needed to be seen to when we arrived, me leaking blood from multiple sites or Shadz sitting smugly in her cage looking like butter wouldn't melt in her mouth. The last couple of years I have been picking her up and then holding her by the scruff and under her chest lower her tail first into the upended cage and knock the door shut. I actually tape the newspaper and towel lining in so they don't slip off the floor. Once she is in the cage she gives up all pretense of fighting as she knows I won that round. It has become easier each time now. Definitely one cat per carrier though.

  18. Sneakers and Cheetah Boy went to the vet today. It wasn't much trouble getting them into the carrier, especially Sneakers since he's only been to the vet twice in his short life. Cheetah hides but gives up as soon as he's found.

Sneakers screamed bloody murder all the way to the vet's and all the way home. He got his one year check up and some shots. When we got home and let him out he glared at us, jumped up on the carrier and peed on it. Then he went upstairs and has been sitting in the rocking chair looking sorry for himself ever since.
