  1. Hi all! I would like to dedicated today's cafe to my dad. Today would have been his 80th had he been living. For him there are biscuits and gravy, grits and bacon. For all, there is whatever your little heart's desire. I hope that you have a wonderful day today and remember your dad too! Happy Tuesday!

  6. Oooh, I would like to add 2 of my Dad's favorites: fresh baked brownies and Boston Cream pie.
I have wonderful memories of my Dad; now he's helping out at the Rainbow Bridge!

  7. Since we're having our dads' favorites, I'll bring a box of plain Dunkin Donuts and refill everyone's coffee for them. That was one of my dad's favorite things, although he always thought my mom was nuts for dunking her doughnuts in her coffee! :)

  8. MC here is to your dad and all dads!

My massive bug bite is now turning into a giant red rash and is slightly bruised. Crazy looking, really. I woke up this morning and I accidentally left hamburger buns out and taco ate THREE AND A HALF BUNS!!! He has diarrhea now so I have to give him a bath because its caked all over him. He also sat on the couch with his poobutt and stained it, so now I have to clean that too. Not off to a good start today.

  9. Morning all...Very tired today and moving slowly.

Here is to all the dads :) I lost mine when I was 7 so I really don't remember him. He was in and out of the VA hospital all the time.

Gini..oh my honey..what a day. I hope your bite gets better soon. Taco..silly kitty..You have to have all your food under lock and key. Who knew he likes bread so much. A kitty after my own heart.

  10. Hey Gini - hope that clears up soon. I've got my annual case of poison ivy. It's one of those things that are considered sensitizers, which means that each time is going to be worse (hence, the epi-pen in case a bee stings me again). It's not too bad, but I had to wrap my wrist because it's weeping a bit.
My goodness, Taco is quite silly. Messy, but silly! Hope things start looking up for you Gini.
CM, I didn't know your Dad has been gone that long; it must have been tough. Happy Birthday CM's Dad - your kid is awesome and a really good friend.

  11. Hi, Everyone! MC, in memory of your dad, I'll have a huge pile of grits with butter.

Gini, I'm sorry but I had to laugh. But only because I thought that "poobutt" was such a cute word!

Posted 3 months ago by WillowandWindismom #

  12. Awww Joan..Poison Ivy..wow...Hope it clears up very soon for you.
WWM, I laughed too. Poobutt. I love it. Gini has given us a new word :)

Posted 3 months ago by cricketsmama #

  13. Well, my morning has been hetic to say the least!..... LOL at Gini's poobutt boy!... Silly Taco!.....

... Joan, what a bummer - poison ivy!.... Do you get it because you come in contact with the plant? I have found plain old Cetaphil cream to be the purest and most relieving to take car of itchiness (since I am the queen of allergy rashes!).... altho, I'm sure you need a prescription to take care of the poison ivy.......

I can't believe my Dad has been gone 11 years now! I miss him terribly!.... His favorite lunch was grilled cheese and tomatoe soup, so I'll have that please!

  14. In memory of my Dad I'll have cream crackers and cheese, followed by fruitcake and cheese. Of course it has to be my home-made fruitcake, since Mum isn't around to bake it anymore, and the strongest Canadian Cheddar you can find.

I'll repost the link to my Berlin photos in case anyone who wants to see them, missed them yesterday.

  15. Hi Y'All, I have been crazy busy and have been in lurk mode. I am so sorry to hear about Binx. My new boyfriend and I are having a great time. I can't believe I have met someone at 50 that I am so totally crazy about! I posted a couple of weeks ago about having 4 baby kitts in the basement of the museum. They are so cute. We are devising a plan as we speak to catch Mama Cat to have her fixed. The babies are about 4 weeks old. Mama is scheduled for Aug. 17. The kits should be about 5 weeks old. We are going to move the kittens up from the basement and start feeding them canned kitten IAMS. Hopefully, the mama will move up with them in a secure space so that we can catch her. Wish us luck! Here's to all of the Dad's. In honor of my dad, I would like a little piece of vinison tenderloin pan fried with a biscut, red eye gravy and an egg over easy. Have a great day. Gotta dash

  16. Sad news. Hepburn drowned in a neighbour's waterbutt. He found her last night and buried her straight away.

  17. Hi Tinafish - good to "see" you! Glad you are having a great time with BF. Good luck with Mama Cat!
AV - this is what I get for pulling weeds; I should just let 'em grow. Some of them produce pretty flowers! I was so careful too; Dad taught me all about poison ivy/oak/sumak when I was very young. We didn't do anything in the yard last year because of the impending home project, and up till now I've been working on the inside of the house so it's had 2 years of growth. There's spray that you can use, but the only way to really get rid of it is to pull it out by the roots. I'll probably do that in the fall. I probably got it from it being by nearby weeds. Fortunately, it's not too bad, just annoying.

  18. Wow, slow day in the cafe. On Thursday it will be 10 years since my dad died.

I just got back from a 60 minute vacation. Lunch with a friend at a restaurant that has a lush tropical courtyard and fountains. It was lovely to see my friend who in February had moved away. Lunch was Chicken enchilada soup and a fabulous BLT with onion rings. My friend ate most of the o-rings since I am allergic to raw onions. These were cooked enough that I had a couple. BLT's on homebaked sourdough for anyone still hungry!

  19. Just waiting for daughter to get home from seeing BBF off at Stansted, then I'll make dinner. Tomorrow I'm off to France at crack of sparrows. Oh that reminds me, I'd better finish the laundry or I'll have no clean knickers!

  20. PM, NO! I am terribly sorry about Hepburn! My deepest sympathy and prayers out to you! Hugs too!

  21. in honor of my dad, i'm making strawberry shortcake for everyone. and we'll be doing it again Sunday, when it's his 71st birthday...

  22. Guess we're all thinking of our Dads today.
KYK, that 60 minute va-ca sounds awesome! A couple of weeks ago, I shut my door on my lunch hour. The wallpaper on my computer is hurricane Charley from the beaches of North Carolina. I popped in a CD that plays ocean sounds and as a nasty t-storm raged outside my window, I read my book. Best part, no one bothered me! Usually, someone taps on the door and it's the usual "I know you're on lunch, but..." lol.

  23. Taco is all bathed, the couch is all cleaned, lunch has been eaten, and now it's time to study!

  24. So sorry for your loss, PM! I still have my Dad, thank God. I am sorry for all those whose Dad is gone.

I actually had a step-uncle who shared today as our birthday as well as it was my Godmother/Great Aunt Peg's wedding anniversary. She didn't tell me till I was 30 years of age as she wanted me to enjoy my special day. Today's famous birthday are Hulk Hogan, Steve Wozinak (apple inventor), Jerry Falwell, Mike Douglas (talk show host), Alex Haley and Arlene Dahl. Some of them are not alive anymore.

Kykat, you lunch sounds yummy. I was thinking last night about some girlfriends who wanted to be friends but that I pushed them away. I was young and stupid. Would be nice to have them now to go to lunch, share things with, etc. Oh well, they have their own lives now. Too late to go back as it has been more than 25 years since I last talked to them.

  25. Tonight's dinner will be lamb steaks grilled to perfection - pink in the middle - new potatoes and salad.

    Posted 3 months ago by Pollys_Mum_in_UK_2605 #

  26. Oh that sounds delicious, PM! If I bring a nice bottle of merlot, may I join you for dinner? Can be over via the TDK cyberjet in a blink of an eye.

  27. Absolutely SMM.

  28. MC, I know your Dad is looking down on you and being very proud of his daughter for your strength and graciousness. My father passed away almost 5 years ago now (10/15/04), I still miss him...he was always there when I needed to talk to him even though I didn't see him as much as I would like. He loved kitties for their "attitude" and their independence. Hope everyone has a great day.

  29. I miss my Dad too Annie (6/30/25-12/29/04). I had an interesting experience the other day. I was watching a Walter Cronkite special about his coverage of the space race of the 60s. (this is hard to describe, but I'll try) As I was watching, I sort of felt out of myself; that it was Dad who seemed to be channeling thru me and watching that footage from all those years ago. I felt such an adrenaline rush as I watched the rockets take off. Dad did classified work for the space program and was quite proud to say he designed the space shuttle nose cone. (He was very quiet after the Challenger accident, and only talked once the source of the accident was found; perhaps worrying that he may have caused it.)

  30. SMM, try to find yur old friends on Facebook. I found a friend I haven't seen in 16 years. We got together recently and it was like no time had passed...other than the grey hairs that are starting to appear. It is worth a shot to reconnect.

I hope you treat yourself to something nice tonight. I am going to meet friends for margarita night, so I will have one for you! And one for Debsterwiz! The Steak will be for HM! LOL.
