I once had to take Mycat to the vet, and when I got there the vet reached in the carrier and pulled out a kitten. It had sneaked in when I wasn't looking, and Mycat rode with company all the way into town. Mycat didn't complain; she loved riding in the car.
I had a friend who claimed that you get the response you expect, with cats. If you expect trouble, you'll get it, but if you expect a fun ride, your cat will sit up where she can see out the window, and she will comment on everything she sees. Mycat likes to go fast, and says so.
When I moved from LA to Fresno, I had five cats with me. Mycat, as top cat, rode in front, but the others rode in individual carriers, cardboard ones for the occasion, and when I looked in the rear view mirror to the back of my camper truck, I saw all the cats had ripped their way out of the temporary carriers and were picking out better places to sleep. I stopped on the Grapevine and provided water and litter for them, and because I had told them they would enjoy it, they did. When I got to Fresno, and opened up the back of the truck, they refused to come out until they had finished their nap.
Expecting the best works wonderfully with cats, and, do you know, to some extent with people. I suppose it's because cats have ESP that it works so well with them. Saves one a lot of trouble, too. KPMom.
