  1. Nora is prone to have urinary infections every so often, and it looks like she is having the same problem again. Today she goes to the V-E-T. No doubt she will also be told that she needs to go on a diet as well. My problem is that the girls only eat dry food, and they refuse to eat at the same time. How do you keep one cat from eating extra while making sure the others get enough?

Last night I got out the "purple thing" (a.k.a. the cat carrier) Nora immediately claimed it. She was laying in it last night, she was laying in it this morning. I wish I had taken a picture. How much do you want to bet that when I go home to put her in for real she won't get anywhere near it?

  2. awwww Nora...
NNGM...I wish I knew how to get the food distribution evenly.. Fred is a HOG and when Bastian was alive, I would have to put food in the bedroom where she was and shut the door just so she could get her wet food. Fred is still a hog with Cricket but she just shoves him aside. I have dry down too so they nosh on that all day long.

  3. Poor Nora indeed! UTI's are just so miserable for the babies. I think it's hilarious that she loves the purple thing until you want her to love it. That sounds so typical. As for the weight thing....I've gotten looks from my big boy, Tuffy, aka oinker, that say to me.."You R Not Skinny Either...FEED ME"! How can I argue with that? =D

  4. {{{Nora}}} Poor baby has to go back to the v-e-t. I wish I had some suggestions for you on the separate feeding, but I have the same situation in my house, just no way to keep them apart.

  5. I have two four month old kittens and I am concerned one is bullying the other and getting more food. Every now and then, I will put the food into the bowl and just pick Lucy up and put her on the counter and let her eat for a while before putting the bowl down on the floor. Mitzi doesn't always like it too much, but I don't do it so often that it's a problem.

  6. I once had to take Mycat to the vet, and when I got there the vet reached in the carrier and pulled out a kitten. It had sneaked in when I wasn't looking, and Mycat rode with company all the way into town. Mycat didn't complain; she loved riding in the car.
I had a friend who claimed that you get the response you expect, with cats. If you expect trouble, you'll get it, but if you expect a fun ride, your cat will sit up where she can see out the window, and she will comment on everything she sees. Mycat likes to go fast, and says so.
When I moved from LA to Fresno, I had five cats with me. Mycat, as top cat, rode in front, but the others rode in individual carriers, cardboard ones for the occasion, and when I looked in the rear view mirror to the back of my camper truck, I saw all the cats had ripped their way out of the temporary carriers and were picking out better places to sleep. I stopped on the Grapevine and provided water and litter for them, and because I had told them they would enjoy it, they did. When I got to Fresno, and opened up the back of the truck, they refused to come out until they had finished their nap.
Expecting the best works wonderfully with cats, and, do you know, to some extent with people. I suppose it's because cats have ESP that it works so well with them. Saves one a lot of trouble, too. KPMom.

  7. I too worry about Mia getting enough food as Sylvester is twice her size and really needs to reduce his weight but I am concerned about Mia getting enough to eat. Mia is thin and when I put the wet food down, I watch to make sure she gets her fill. Also, I feed them light Science Diet dry food in addition to the wet food because I leave the dry food out all day for them to "graze" from. I too have been thinking about feeding Mia in a different spot but the problem is I am in a one bedroom apt and they both hate closed doors.

  8. I have 2 feeding areas...1 for each...Dot & Crocky...so far they eat in their own area (with alot of reprimanding Crockey at the start of his move in!)They both have the same dry food but wet food is different because of Crockey's digestive challenges!

  9. Well, she survived (ha ha). I'm looking at MC's thread on getting the cats to the vet and laughing. She was fine going there, but once she got into the room she would NOT come out of the carrier. The vet actually tipped it up on end (with the open door toward the table) - I swear she had herself braced against the walls, ninja-style. We were both cracking up. Finally her back legs came down to the table and we could lift it off her. She was not amused.

Looks like we caught it early this time, it wasn't too bad. However, she has gained almost a pound since last year so she is having difficulty keeping herself properly cleaned, which most likely caused the problem. So, now we need to figure out something with the feeding. If they would just eat at the same time it would help; then I wouldn't have to leave the food out all the time.

And... three cheers for injectable antibiotics (no pills this time) Whoo Hoo!

  10. Yea for Ninja Nora!!! Glad no pills and the UTI was caught early enough.
We have had that experience at the Vet too NNGM with turning the carrier upside down..it's always fun.
