  1. Hi again everyone,

I am wondering when cats usually start purring normally, Snowball purrs sometimes but only for like 4-5 seconds at a time and then she stops. Her mother, on the other hand, won't stop at all for the most part she purrs nearly non-stop...and loudly. I can hear her from across the room while I'm watching TV. :) Anyway, just wondering, first kitten jitters lol.

  2. Hi Elm...I have four cats (all sibblings) and I've found that purring is an individual thing. I only have one (my avatar..Shady) who is an all out motorboat purrmaster...the other three only purr for short periods once in a while. =)

  3. Elm, I had one cat that almost never purred and when he did is was barely audible, other cats have sounded like tractors with their purring. It's an individual thing and one day you'll hear it.

  4. The little kitten I am caring for has been purring since the day I got her. I think she was about 8 days and that was a week ago yesterday. NOW she purrs so loud my husband can hear her from across the room.

  5. You are sooo cute !! "first kitten jitters"

My foster kittens were purring like crazy at two weeks. Confucius started trilling at around 7 weeks. I think each kitty is different, purring is there response to their environment and if you have a happy purring baby your doing a great job !!

  6. Thank you so much for the info. As I said in another post, I've never had a kitten from birth before and was wondering. She DOES purr, it's just very soft and in short bursts. Thanks again.

  7. Hi Elm -
My Leela doesn't purr too much. She is just over a year old and has always been like that. She's quite the happy-go-lucky kit, but, like Snowball, only purrs for a short time, then stops. I guess some kitties are just like that. She does trill sometimes; often when she's alone. Sounds like she's singing a song to herself!

  8. Each cat is different. My Patches never purred at all until she was 3 years old! Now you can hear her across the room.
