Prayers for my grandparents

  1. Hi everybody,

There's been so much loss and sadness here lately that I almost didn't come with my own request, but. . .

My grandparents are 90 and 85. My granddad, at 90, has in the last few days lost the ability to stand and walk. He has become incontinent, and has also stopped eating. My mother says he's deteriorating rapidly. Please, pray that the end comes swiftly for him. He's been dying for years, between prostate cancer and heart blockages, and his mind has been gone for just as many years. We just want him to be released. :(

My grandmother came up with an infection in her big toe a few weeks ago, and was prescribed oral antibiotics. Well, the toe never healed, and we learned today that the infection has spread into the bones of her toe at least. Apparently, the antibiotics she was given were not the correct ones for her situation. So, now she has to drive (or be driven) 60 miles one way, five days a week, for the next six weeks, to receive antibiotics through a shunt in her arm. Please pray for her recovery, and for her to have the strength to cope with losing my granddad. Next week is their 68th wedding anniversary.

Thanks for reading this novel. :)

  2. Oh, I'm so sorry Bell! I'll keep both of your grandparents in my prayers.

Years ago, my sister had a horrible infection in the bones of her ankle and they sent her home with a shunt so that she could hook up her antibiotics each day. Maybe this is an option for your grandmother?

  4. FH, the problem is it has to be done in a medical office, and the local hospitals/doctors' offices have refused to see her. Apparently, this medicine is fairly expensive, Medicare does not cover it, and the local offices can't/won't absorb the cost. So, she has to go to the nearest big city to have it done.

  12. BT you are in my prayers daily. You have been such a wonderful friend. Prayers of strength and comfort to you.

    For your grandparents:
May God the Father bless you, God the Son heal you, God
the Holy Spirit give you strength. May God the holy and

  14. Bella, I'm keeping you all in my heart and my thoughts. It would be wonderful if they made it to their anniversary together - 68 years! But if that is not to be, I hope that you all can hold onto the thoughts of the many good years they had together.

  23. Thanks y'all. I didn't think it would be this hard. He's been sick for ages, hasn't really known anybody for longer than that, and I had myself convinced it would be a blessing for him to be called home. Until today. I'm 37; I've always had my Papaw. I'm his oldest granddaughter; when he knew me, he loved me. Sunday is my grandparents' anniversary. Of all the times. . . . .

  26. I thought I'd show y'all the article the local paper did for their 65th anniversary:

    http://www.southalabamian.com/news/2006/0907/People/056.html

They go absolutely nowhere without Trip. He doesn't let my granddad out of his sight.

  29. Bella that's a lovely article on your grandparent's 65th anniversary. There is so much living that goes into that many years between two people and the family who surround them. How can we NOT mourn to see their health taking them away from us. I'm feeling your sadness so much. I miss my grandparents immensely. They're both passed and along with soooo many beautiful memories I will always remember how very safe and loved they made me feel when I was with them. Sending you many (((HUGS)))

  30. Bella, I'm so sorry about your grandparents, and especially your grandfather. It really doesn't matter how old they are, but when you know that the end is approaching, it's always hard. Grandparents hold a very special place in our hearts.

I have all of you in my thoughts and prayers.
