  1. The people offering the money (I'm leaving the name out for those who don't like their name) are very controversial in NZ.

Personally I think it's the group taking an interest in a cancer that affects a great many women including the women who appear in their parade and it shouldn't matter that it comes from them.

  2. I would be inclined to agree if it weren't for the fact that it's an 'offer' with strings attached. He says he'll give the money IF 100 women take their tops off and join his parade to parade topless down Queen Street --the main street in our most populous city.

How does he expect the NZ Breast Cancer Foundation to achieve this? Ask their female staff to go topless? Exhort other women to go topless? I suppose the fact that 100 extra topless women would no doubt result in greater crowds and more publicity for his tacky parade (and porn business) has nothing to do with it. And, by the way, that's only $50 per woman. I would want more than that to get my kit off (though actually, I'd probably get offered more to keep it on, lol!)

I doubt they would have refused a $7500 donation from Mr Crowe, private citizen, no strings attached, no publicity needed...

(I have no moral objections. If women want to do it and people want to watch, that's totally up to them. As a feminist, though,I do object. I will always really dislike the objectification and exploitation of women.)

But I understand where you're coming from Airy. Breast cancer is a scourge and the more money (without strings) that goes to the cause, the better. I definitely agree with you there! :)

  3. Maybe I should have read the article more. Didn't see there were strings attached :(

  4. And so why can't the donor get his own friends/acquaintances 'bare' their chests and not subject other women to do it. Honestly its too bad that he stipulated it had to be 'women' otherwise 100 men would do just fine, they get breast cancer too.

  5. Those are pretty big strings too, and it's to his benefit if he gets the 100 women with their tops off. This offer is nothing but an advertising stunt for his voyeuristic parade. I totally understand NZBCF decision to decline.

  6. Tee hee, Deb, good point, he does actually offer some money if men do it too but it's a lot less... Airy, you are just too nice to suspect his motives whereas I am a cynic from way back...
