  1. As most of you, if not all, already know, Mary (OWLWATCHER_974) and Anthony have had a very rough weekend. Many of us sat and watched the TDK chat for any news during the long 2 days. Throughout this time Mary wrote some very lovely prose about what was going on. How she did it I will never know, I don't know that I would have been able to keep the presence of mind to write what, when and how she did under the same circumstances.

I thought it would be nice to compile all of this prose in place so people could follow Mamma Kitty on her journey. At the end I also included a list of all bridge kitties named in the original vigil thread. All times areapproximate due to the way the TDK chat displays post times...So, without further ado...

    Friday, 9pm PDT

C.C. and Pepper stand by not sure if this is a false alarm or if they are going to be welcoming another one of their own to the Bridge.
Mamma Kitty weakly rests on her haunches in the quiet space that has been provided for her, unable to get comfortable. Although the water and the yucky stuff that her Mommy and Daddy have forced her to eat has stayed down, she is not feeling well at all. She can barely walk, and her tummy feels horrible. She is tired. Mommy and Daddy have said their goodnights to her, and have said that they will see her tomorrow. Of course she knows they will be constantly coming over to her and looking in on her throughout the night, but she is so tired. She just wants to sleep, but she feels so awful. She can feel the other kitties close by, as if waiting for something... maybe a sign of what they are to do next...

    Saturday, 4am PDT

*Mamma Kitty lifts her head to stare at the light coming into the window. it's been a rough night but she has been given a new dawn and still has fight left in her. The Bridge kitties purr their encouragement*

    Saturday, 5am PDT

*The fight appears to be short lived. After being forced to eat some more yucky stuff mixed with water, Mamma Kitty collapses. Loud purrs seem to echo throughout the room as C.C. and the others from the bridge continue to stand vigil, waiting for their sister to join them*

    Saturday, 5pm PDT

*C.C. slowly approaches as Mamma Kitty collapses again after being given the electrolyte formula. Her breathing is normal, but her body appears to be giving out. The two people hold back tears as they watch the cat's struggle. C.C. sits down to wait. One of the people goes back to sit in front of the computer and breaks down crying. 'Mamma Kitty...my poor precious baby...' All the purrs in the world cannot comfort her, but some of the other Bridge kitties try.*

    Saturday, 9pm PDT

The sound of purring can be heard echoing throughout the living room. C.C. steps forward as Mamma Kitty takes her last breath, then wakes up standing next to her. Three other cats - Mamma Kitty's babies who left before she did, greet her enthusiastically. Mary and Anthony cry and hug each other as they hold Mamma Kitty's lifeless form. Next to them, a beautiful grey and black tabby looks up, wishing she could tell them she's ok.
"They'll be fine after a while." C.C. reassures her. "Remember when I left? It took a while, and Mary still cries, but she is ok."
Mamma Kitty rubs up against Anthony one last time, then follows C.C., her babies, and the multitude of others who have been standing vigil waiting for her to join them. A ray of light becomes a staircase leading to the Heavens.
"They will join us in time." Rusty and Pepper tell her. "It will seem like forever to them, but I have been told that we will barely realize that any time has passed."
A beautiful green meadow awaits, and soon Mamma Kitty begins to relax as she roams around a bit. The pain of the last two days is now but a fading memory.

  7. Welcome, it was just something I felt needed doing to keep this story all in one place. I still don't think I could have done it, you are much stronger than I am Mary.

  10. This is what OW wrote for Shaddo. It meant so much to me then and it means a lot to me now.

*C.C., Pepper, Rusty, and a kitty that goes by the name Boy , all join the ever growing group of cats standing vigil, waiting for Shaddo to join them. Loud purrs and soft meows of excitement fill the air as they anticipate having a new friend to play with. C.C. and Pepper, who were able to observe the huge party last week, share stories of the party with the other kitties. They all take notes as some go back to make preparations for an even bigger party to welcome Shaddo to his new life. This party has to be even bigger and better than the one Shaddo had for all his friends because all Shaddo's friends at the Rainbow Bridge were not able to go to last week's party and they want this party to be special.

Even as preparations are made for a huge party, soft purring prayers are said for Shaddo's mommy, who will be missing her baby boy. The Rainbow Bridge kitties will also be doing their best to keep Shaddo from missing his mommy too much while he is waiting for her to join him. It is only a short separation, after all.

The excitement builds and some of the kitties now surround Shaddo and his Mommy with purrs of comfort, trying to ease the sadness, trying to let Shaddo's mommy know that she will see her baby boy again .. that he will be okay now even if she can't see him for a while. The white light also surrounds Shaddo and his mommy.*

    Joan,
I hope the images from the paragraphs above will somehow bring you some comfort. I am so sorry for what you are going through. I will be praying that this is as easy as it can possibly be for you -- even though having to say good-bye to a precious baby is never easy ... just maybe somehow it won't be so difficult.

    *hugs*

  11. OW, I'm not around on the weekends, but was very sad that monday morning to learn about Mama Kitty. I never saw this post at the time, but know that Mr.Bug was also there to meet MamaKitty and show her a nice shaddy spot for naps.

  12. I too was very sad to read OW posting of Mama Kitty's passing. OW you have the gift of prose and even though it is saddening, it helps to read of how we think the kitty is passing. It ease's one's mind reading this. Thank you.

Hugs to OW and to all who have lost a furry one. I lost my first one back in 2005 and I still miss her. She took her last breath lying on my chest while I sang to her. It was painful experience for me but I am glad she died on her own. If she had not died that particular morning, the vet and I would have helped her to the bridge. I had felt at that time that I didn't want to have to help her but didn't want her suffering to continue beyond the third day.
