  1. Last night after Mamma Kitty died, Lynx came up for dinner. But instead of running to his food dish, he forced his way into the house and went right to the spot where Mamma Kitty had passed away. Anthony tried to get him out of there, and eventually picked Lynx up to get him out of that spot. Lynx sank all of his claws into Anthony's arm and then bit him. I heard a yowl and asked what happened. Apparently Lynx had made that awful sound as he attacked.

I ran into the room to get Lynx out of the house, and what I saw made me afraid of him. He was walking across the room with the attitude of a cat that is just looking for a fight. Poor Shiva came into the room and Lynx immediately pounced on her.

Anthony screamed at Lynx to get out of our house while grabbing the cat by the scruff of the neck and literally throwing him out the door before he could hurt somebody else.

I thought Lynx was just freaked out by some smell he might have detected coming from where Mamma Kitty had been laying. He seemed normal enough when he came up for food this morning, and he ignored Shiva when she went out the door. But as I was fixing my breakfast, I heard Trinity bark at something. Poor Shiva was at the door with looking up at me as if to say, 'Hurry!! Open it!!' Lynx was right behind her stalking her.

He has never acted like this before. He and Mamma Kitty used to fight all the time, but I have never seen him go after Shiva, and he has never attacked one of us.

I am thinking of taking away the food dish, and letting him find his food elsewhere. I hate to do this. I love that cat. Is there another solution? Poor Shiva is not even safe in her own yard anymore.

  2. OW this is very disturbing to me. Is there a chance that Lynx is sick? Could he have been poisoned by something? Could Mamma Kitty have been poisoned and that's what so suddenly made her fall ill? I'm sorry..I don't mean to upset you at all but I wondered when she had been so well just prior to passing so suddenly. Could someone be harming your kitties? This worries me. =(

  3. Thais doesn't sound good, OW. He couldn't be rabid, could he?

  4. {{{OW}}} You've been through so much already. My prayers that Lynx is okay.

  5. I hope that he is just upset because he senses that she passed on, do you have any calms forte or rescue remedy that you can put in his water/food outside? It might calm him down, and keep Shiva inside for now.

  6. Lynx is healthy, he is showing no signs of anything wrong other than being over aggressive. When I left for church earlier, Shiva was at the screen door wanting out even though Lynx was on the other side. She even sniffed noses with him - and this is after being attacked by him last night and stalked by him this morning. I made her stay in when I left, but gave Lynx a hug when he jumped up on the bricks beside the porch.

This afternoon when I got home, he came into the yard and pretty much ignored Shiva, who had been let out by my roommate while I was gone. But Shiva was very nervous around him and wouldn't walk up to the door until she made sure I was watching.

I can't afford anything to put in the water to calm him down. For now I will try calming him with kindness, since he seems to be wanting a lot of attention right now.

Shiva just went back outside, but Lynx has left the yard so she should be okay.

As far as what happened to Mamma Kitty, she had some health issues, which despite her health improving over the last few months, seemed to have finally caught up with her. I had known about these problems (they were pretty much untreatable) and had been worried that she would have a long, slow decline. But thanks to the grace of God, she passed quickly and suddenly without much suffering.

  7. I agree OW..Thanks to the Grace of God. ((((OW)))) I hope Lynx calms down soon. Was he particularly close to Mamma Kitty? Kindness and patience will hopefully bring him through this particularly grumpy behavior.

  8. Hello owlwatcher,
I am SO sorry you lost Mama kitty.... Hugs to you sweetie..
My Perry (half Siamese) can be like Lynx too at times. So unpredicable! If one of the other cats here is meowing loudly he runs to see. Once when he was young I was washing his sister in the kitchen sink and she was meowing like I was killing her. Well, he attacked me!! I had long scratches down both legs from his nails as he is NOT declawed.... If a person meows loudly just kidding around, I tell them to stop cause he gets in an attack mode! Maybe Lynx was SO upset about mama kitty and didn't know where she was and smelled or sensed her sickness/ dying, it must have upset him badly. Poor kitty. Did he go near her when she was so sick, like in the last few hours? Breaks my heart. awww...... Keep us posted. So sorry.....

  9. He might have seen her when she was outside on Friday afternoon, but Lynx preferred to stalk and attack Mamma Kitty instead of being friendly with her. But she also went up to him and sniffed him at times. Either way, I kind of doubt he is really upset about her being gone.

He came up when we were burying Mamma Kitty this evening, and Anthony was angry with him at first, but we both agreed to give Lynx another chance. The only thing is that he will never be allowed into our house again. Anthony and I are both worried about what he could be capable of. Lynx is too unpredictable. He tried stalking Shiva while we were outside and I had to go back him off. I actually held up my fist to him and told him if he ever hurt Shiva that he would have more than one bad leg to worry about (his back leg was injured recently). He seemed to get the idea - especially after we started ignoring him. The poor cat looked up at me as if to say, 'Why don't you love me anymore?'

I eventually relented and pet him, and he went up to Anthony to make his peace a few minutes later. Still, we are being very watchful of him.

  10. OW, chances are very good that Lynx will respond well to being given positive attention when he seems to be non-aggressive toward Shiva (snifing noses, etc.), and ignored completely when he misbehaves. It appears that he wants attention.

Stalking and pouncing on other cats, provided that it doesn't result in serious injury, can be a form of play and affection. I don't know if that's what's going on with Lynx and Shiva, but try to remember to give Lynx positive attention when the interaction is mild and easygoing.
