Suddenly lethargic kitten

  1. Hello again, I feel like I turn to y'all twice a day for help, thank you very much. I've never known a kitten as young as Finn before now, let alone been responsible for their health. Just as background, he's around 2 months and has been to the vet twice and received glowing bills of health both times. He generally is extremely active, eats, plays and eliminates like a kitten should. He got his first vaccination shot 3 days ago. The vet told me that he'd be lethargic that day, and he was. The next day he was back to his normal self and all was well. However, today he's been super loafy, which is out of character, he seems happy and hasn't had any problem eating, but he has only woken up 3 or 4 times for 5 - 10 minutes of play. He's usually climbing up the walls 12 hours a day.

Compounding my concern is that I'll be leaving town for 2 days, and although there will be someone here to keep an eye on him, I'm just worried that something isn't right. Does this sound familiar to any of you? am I making a big deal out of nothing?

Thanks for the umpteenth time everyone.

  2. I'd not hesitate to ask my vet for advice, in this sort of situation.

If the vet says the kitten can safely stay home, make sure that the person watching him is authorized to take him to the vet if the kitten should stop eating or drinking. Monitor intake and output; if the kitten stays lethargic for 24 hours, it's time to go to the vet.

(Call your vet before you leave town, and make sure you let them know your petsitter is authorized to seek treatment for your kitten. Also, if you have a cellular phone number, give that to your vet in case they need to seek any sort of clarification.)
