Thorsday Morning Cafe August 20

(34 posts)
  1. It's storming outside the cafe, kittehs are coming in and shaking out their little umbrellas and selves and setting up a lovely buffet of fresh fruit, made-to-order waffles and omelets, a juice and smoothie bar, and starting up the coffee and hot water for tea.

A southern kitty is whipping up grits and biscuits with sausage gravy, the bacon is sizzling, and tuxies are ready to take your orders!

  5. Hi Joan, how was the anniversary evening??

  6. Morning everyone!.....slept in (somewhat), and it's a beautiful morning!... Hubbs when down to the pro shop to get us a tee time for this morning, so I'm just popping in to say "hi" before I run off to get ready to play......Abby and Cuddles are doing fine, and Cuddles has discovered that she likes to sit by the screen door and look out - she typically doesn't like to even look out - the outside has always scared her, she hates going outside, but up here, I think all the birds and wind through the trees has "tweaked" her interest!.....

... got a call last night from Dauther, she is going through sorority rush, and is having a blast.... they start with visiting 10 chapters, then they drop two, and the chapters drop.... yesturday, she got invitations back from all of them, and was so sorry to have to drop two.... today, she must narrow it down to six....... she is starting to have favorites, so we'll see how things turn out....

.. ok, gotta run now, will check in later!.... hope everyone has a great day!

  7. Good Morning my friends. Mmmm grits, gravy, bacon, biscuits...Oh I will have a plate full of everything!
Yes Joan, how was your anniversary? Did Leela help you celebrate? :D

  8. I like the image of the tiny kittehs with their tiny umbrellas too :)
We had a nice evening. Got take out from a place not too far away. I spent the afternoon on my raft in the pool. It's one of those rafts that just the outer rim is inflated; the inside is mesh so I'm about 90% under water, ahhh. A little burnt (oops), but I've been looking for an afternoon like this all summer! Leela had to stay inside (the pool is a few minutes' walk away) but she joined me for a nap a bit later when there was a little t-storm.

  10. Raining outside my office window today, may have some thunderboomers later. Joan, it sounds like you had a nice, relaxing day and evening! I used to love inner tubing in Lake Michigan, just my butt hangin' out the center of the tube, slowly turning around in the water to see what there was to see... ahh, those lazy days before high school....

Good morning to everyone else who's entered the cafe since I opened it. I wish you all productive days, no matter what it is you have to do.

  12. Morning, all!

Joan, sounds like you had a lovely day yesterday. I'm glad the weather cooperated for you.

I'm back at work after 3 days off - boo! Mike and I had a good time, even though we didn't go anywhere. We watched several movies, went out for dinner, and last night we went to a play, so it was good. I think I'm going to need a lot of coffee to get through today, though.

  13. Sounds like a nice few days off Kilroy! *slides a huge coffee to Kilroy* I'm taking a half day again today. Nothing special planned - just need to rest a bit before school starts. The weather looks to be not as nice as yesterday, but I have some indoor stuff to do. Hubby and I may go out to dinner tonight or tomorrow.

  15. Thursday greetings from cool & drizzly Milwaukee! Mmm I haven't had a biscuit in ages but I'll have mine with honey butter and a black mug o'java!
Thanks...Now, a smooch for a little grey kit and wishes to have a wonderful rest of the day/eve!

  16. Morning everyone! Rainy day here. I would love some hot tea and maybe some bacon and eggs with toast. I didn't sleep well last night so that combined with the grey skies will make for a long day!

  17. Good day y'all! It is storming in the birthplace of Elvis. I'm glad, we needed it. I need to give y'all an update on the museum kittens. We have moved everyone up to the main floor and set Mama and babies up in the bathroom. My assistant is keeping the little b/w tuxie and has named him George. George is brave. He toured the main museum gallery today and loved it. The other 3 babies aren't as brave as George and Mama Kitty is still as ferral as the day she had her kits in the basement. Hopefully we can get her fixed in the near future and release her. She is welcome to live in the basement and come and go as she pleases. She is a beautiful silver tabby. I have never seen a true silver tabby before her. She is very petite, I suspect she is a baby herself. My manfriend and I are getting along great. He is such a nice man and seems to be crazy about me. My son Bailey left for the Navy last Thursday. It is really starting to sink in that he is not here....It was weird thinking about him walking out my door and how he will be when comes back through my door. Need to run but will be checking back in.
    Peace

  18. What is a storm? And rain - what is that? It's going to be another triple digit day here in balmy West Texas.

Mr. WWM and I went for a bike ride this morning and did 33.5 miles. And (drum roll, please) I have now ridden three whole days, about 80 miles, without falling off my bike when stopping!!!! Which is a good thing because I honestly think that the deep scrape that I got on my left knee from falling on asphalt has gotten infected.

AV, I'll be anxious to know what sorority daughter chooses. I was a Tri-Delta!

  19. Tina, thank you for the update on the museum kittens. I'm smiling at the thought of another brave George :) My Georgie isn't afraid of much. Before you know it he'll be the most sophisticated kitty in Tupelo, viewing all that art.

Hi WWM! I'm glad you can ride w/o falling, but yow! on riding in that heat, and double yow! at an infected knee :( Take care of you.

  20. Hello from this side of the pond. I'm off for a few days, had to take Mum for a hospital appointment this morning, then did some nice, leisurely holiday (woo hoo!) shopping this afternoon - a nice roomy handbag for the flights and a few tops. Plus a got a t-shirt present for Chris, couldn't resist it - it says "Beer, football & sausage rolls" on the front!!

Neck's been grotty the last few days, and is really giving me grief this evening. Will need to make space in luggage for lots of painkillers!

Posted 2 years ago by MadcatwomanintheUK #

  21. Oh, I'm sorry MCW - there won't be room for pain killers because of all the Cadbury chocolate!!!

Kilroy, Mr. WWM says that if my knee is icky tonight (translates as there is pus) that tomorrow we are going to the doctor. (whine) The heat - well, we're used to it here. You can't live out here without sort of adapting eventually to those triple digit days.

  22. I was a KKG at Auburn. Daughter said the KKGs at UCF are in her top 3...... can't wait to talk to her tonight....... it was narrowed down to six today, tomorrow to three, then Sat. they pledge......she's nervous and excited - I remember how much fun all that was!......

.... Hubbs and I played an exhausting 18 holes, and finished in time to grab a bite to eat, and then will play in the "couples" twilight golf at 4.

... the "girls" have been very good, I don't think either of them has moved much from their comfy places, watching the birds out the windows!......

Posted 2 years ago by AV #

  23. ((MCW)) I hope you feel better soon. The days are ticking by...I am getting so excited to see you!!
Tina, thanks for the update. I bet those kitties are just so cute!!Glad things are going wonderful with you and your man!
WWM, you be careful or MCW might have to push your wheelchair when she arrives. :D
    Hi to everyone else!!!! Hugs

  24. Oh, never CM!!! I'll never let on to MCW that I'm one or two years older than she is. ;-)

  26. Will someone please explain sororities and fraternities to me. I know the root words (soror - sister, frater - brother) and I know they seem to be some sort of club/clique at university, but I don't understand the names. Does each university have it's own fraternities etc. or what? HELP!

    Posted 2 years ago by Pollys_Mum_in_UK_2605 #

  27. PM, They are indeed clubs within Universities. They generally have greek letters as their identifiers, such as Kappa Kappa Gamma (That AV referenced). They are partly for social reasons and partly for volunteerism and philanthropy. They are an optional sort of activity. (Shout out to AV - War Eagle! I have been on Auburn's campus numerous times) There are also fraternities and sororities that are for academic achievement. I was a member of Gamma Beta Phi in college and we were about recognizing academic achievement.

    Posted 2 years ago by KYKAT 12 23 #

  28. Well, my school didn't have them so I'm the worst person to try to answer this, PM, but here goes:

Sororities and fraternities are nationwide organizations with chapters at different colleges. They have their own dormitories (called houses) and some people consider them a valuable networking/socializing tool. I can't vouch for that aspect; as I said, my school, being all women, didn't have sororities.

ETA: Thanks, KYK, you explained that much better than I did.

  29. Can you choose which one to join?

  30. I'll let someone else explain the lovely process of "pledging"
