I read somewhere once that orange smell is something kitties don't like. The first year I had a Christmas tree with cats, they actually tore up the tree. I had to get a new tree and since then, they have been banished from the room the tree is in. At least orange isn't too stinky and if it keeps them away from the tree it is worth it.

I love the presents anecdote. It's so funny when they get a bit of tape stuck to a paw. Now that we have three new ones I'm glad the subject came up. I hadn't even thought about their reaction to a tree. Did anyone watch Shrek the Halls last night where Puss in Boots beomes so enamored with a Christmas ball he becomes self-hypnotized? The besgt laugh in the show and I thought of everyone here when we saw it.

Hi KW and others with real trees, cover the water underneath your tree it's poisonous like pinesol to cats. I've never seen any that were real anxious to drink it but just incase.

AZDEB...I roared at the visual I got when reading your post. The squirt bottle routine has worked for me for years...until...Spider & Thumper came along. I squirt them, they shake their heads like 'what was that?' & then proceed to do what they aren't suppose to do. Those 2 are a handful. lol
