I have 2 kittens (almost a year old, spayed) from the same litter, sisters. Anyway, one sleeps through the night and I guess the other one just gets bored while everyone else sleeps around 2am every night she starts howling at my bedroom door nonstop and scratches the carpet under the door. I'm a super light sleeper so I don't get any sleep unless I put her in her "room" (the guest bathroom) instead of letting her roam the apartment at night. The worse part is that my bedroom door is at the top of a very narrow echo-y stairwell, so it's super loud. Also, my apt building has thin walls and my neighbor's bed is up against the wall of my stairwell and I've gotten complaints... I let her in the room but then she meows at me b/c I'm sleeping... I don't know what else to do? Any advice on limiting the overnight meowing? Or is this going to go on the rest of this kitties life? Help me please?

Advice on overnight meowing...

Sounds like your kitty is bored and lonely. Try setting aside a least a half hour of play time just before your bedtime each night so kitty can get rid of excess energy. Many cats like to sleep with their people, personally I can't sleep without at least 2 of my kitties on the bed at night.

I play with both of them when I get home from work, pet them, love them. If I let her into the room at night she climbs up the blinds. Climbs up the bird cage, then the bird sqawks, at least I can put a sheet over the bird cage she goes back to sleep... Ugh, she does everything but sleep

I wonder if using a Feliway diffuser would help calm your kitty. Many here swear by Feliway for calming anxious or aggressive cats. You can order it online or find it in most pet stores.
Cats generally object strenuously to closed doors. I had trouble when Digit and Furl came to live with us at about ten weeks of age. Over time everyone settles in for the night. We now have a third cat (Boots--the cat in my avatar). All three sleep with us. I had to pull the covers over my head to convince Digit that I wasn't available for playtime. She now just cuddles against my legs on top of the bedding. It is very nice during the winter months! lol
