  4. Believe it or not, my first job when I landed in this area was temping for Russell Stover. One of my weekly duties was stopping in the shop downstairs and picking out 10 lbs of chocolates for the floor; literally would just open up boxes of chocolates and set them out on file cabinets around various places in the department.

I think I gained 10 pounds at that 12 week temp assignment.

  5. I'm still trying to find a job where I can sleep as long as I want, do nothing, and get paid a heck of a lot of money for doing it! :)

  6. FondaHonda, let me know when you find that!!! I know it's not being a housewife..I've been off work since my surgery last month and have gotten less sleep and worked harder then if I were working. And my husband doesn't understand why I'm anxious to go back!!!!

  7. I would just like a job where I can telecommute and only go into the office once every two weeks or once a week if I have to and still get paid a decent salary with great benefits.

  9. That's the other thing I will do if I ever open my own game design company, telecommuting.

I read that over 70% of the jobs out there right now could be telecommuted and they talked about how much companies would save and how much gas would be saved. The numbers were pretty impressive, I'll have to find the article again

  10. I want to have a job where I can have a kitty with me. Still working on convincing the boss that an office mouser would be an excellent addition to our team. I even volunteered to keep the litterbox in my office. He still said no! Non cat people don't understand anything...

  11. I would be interested in reading that article, Instinct. That applies to the company where I am currently at. There are three buildings that are three stories in each and it appears they are used about 25% of the time. There are empty cubicles from people who were laid off back in October and the rest of the empty offices and cubicles are from people who work from home part-time or are traveling a lot. They did offer telecommuting as part of a flexible work plan but that offer has now been rescinded with the layoffs. You would think as part of a cost cutting, they would reopen the telecommunting idea and possibly cut costs of operating three buildings on a 25% basis.

  12. Karen from Alameda, I think I might pay them to let me work for **chocolates**!!!!

Seriously, the that I was just laid off of was so controlling and just asinine that I want a job with a relaxed, exciting atmosphere where the corporate culture is flat, flat, flat! I got a call from an Internet start up last night that would let me build a social networking site for the health care industry and this morning I am very psyched! Hope to go to an interview tomorrow or Monday. :)

  13. Excellent, Cato! Good luck and hope you get the job you want.

  14. Fingers crossed and prayers going up even as we speak, Cato, for you and everyone else on the site who is looking for a good job that will delight you, respect you, challenge you to new growth, and use your talents properly.

And if anyone finds that company, for heaven's sake, post the application!

  15. Good luck, Cato and Karin!

FondaHonda, if you really want "a job where I can sleep as long as I want, do nothing, and get paid a heck of a lot of money for doing it," come to Chicago, get adopted or marry into one of the big political families, and you can get a government job that will let you do just that. (Yes, I have seen city staff sleeping on the job.)

  16. I had/have a telecommute job like that. Three years ago I transferred to a new job site within my company so my commute went from 15 miles to 10. After a couple of months, they handed me a cell phone and laptop and told me "Go forth, and be productive." I must have been doing something right, because up until this past June (when I got a new manager) I worked from home and loved it.

It takes some disicpline and several of my friends told me that they would not be able to do it because of the inherent distractions.

When the new manager took over, he decreed that our work group was to come into a different office (only 7 miles from my house)3 days a week. This wasn't too hard on me, but a couple of my co-workers now had to deal with a 60 mile roundtrip commute plus fast pass charges for the toll roads of $20 each way during rush hour.

The Great Furr Goddess smiled upon me and this month I transferred to another work group with management who again said.... Virtual? Go for it!

P.S. My ideal job: Getting paid outrageously well to play with other people's toys.
