Kitty angst and aggression

  1. Alighty, well me and my roommate adopted yet another kitty the other day. Her name so far is toonces and she was adopted from Petsmart, which shelters kittens from a nearby shelter. She came in as a stray and ended up being at petsmart for over a month. =/ It was very sad, and she has a brillient little personality, very playful. She is about 8 months old and looks much like my other black kitten, Nebula, who is about 6 months now.

    ANYWAY,
    Down to the problem.
When I got my second kitty, Nova Nebula picked on her and growled all the time and basically threw a hissyfit....literally, lol. But after only about 3 days they were best friends.
Now I wasn't expecting a completely smooth transition when bringing Toonces into our apartment, but it seems as though the other two are really ganging up and being extra mean to her. She's such a sweetheart that I feel she is feeling rejected in a way and is having a harder time adjusting because she just wants to play with the others, and they just WILL NOT have it. I have already tried a few things, and i've tried the quarintine/separation thing and toonces just cries to get out and join everyone else that I feel horrible to keep her there in the other room. She's adjusted well to me and my roommate and the apartment but i'm just unsure why Nebula and Nova are just being so rotten. If anyone has suggestions about something that has worked for them or something, please let me know.

    Thank you,
    Nebula,
    Nova,
    Toonces,
    And Crystal.

  2. You can always try a Feliway diffuser...You can pick these up at most pet supply stores.

  3. Hi Supernova! It's so heartbreaking to see kitties rejected this way. I was going to suggest the Feliway diffuser myself. I've never used one but understand they can be quite affective in situations where there's contention between cats. Good luck and let us know how things go. Headbonks 'n' purrs to little Toonces. Hang in there little girl. =)

  4. its hard bring a new kitten in with other cats that have already adjusted to the other cats. just show her alot of love and the others as well and make her feel comfortable and loved.

  5. Thank you guys, that is a really good suggestion. Do you know about how much it is?

  6. I used the feliway spray because it was half the cost of the diffuser. In Australia the diffusers are about $100 and the spray about $50, but i imagine they would be much cheaper in the US. It works too... and give your resident kitties lots of treats and extra special attention. Also how about letting one of each of the resident kitties play with the new one separately?

  7. in the USA, the diffusers are about $45.00. i used the feliway for a move across town, and there was no problem with my kitties. i hear one can use the spray inside carriers about 30 minutes before going to the vet. can't hurt...
