First off, I came across this site when I was researching Kitten Care information and I think its cruel to have this site up! I already think I'm a little too crazy about my pets. Now I get to tell all about them and read other peoples stories. My fiance is going to hate this. lol.
I am a pre vet college student, I love anything that has a personality that isn't a human and for some reason they like me back. I Just recently got an appartment with my fiance. I brought along my 11 year old male cat, Sam, who is the love of my life. He's a 26lbs beautifully built cat, although he does have that tummy sag now he is getting older. I also brought, to Sam and Scott's (my fiance) dismay, my 2 funnier then crap male rats. Natty and Guinness are my 2 clowns who entertain me while I am being forced to watch what Scott wants which is the same movies over and over that I use to like. a good life lesson is don't ever be cheap and buy cable its for your own good. I love my pets and I didn't know if Scott would like to live with them. He is a dog person and would have brought his baby but she took everything out of herself waiting to see Scotty of to college, she passed half way into his first semester. (We miss you dearly baby girl.)
Luckily Scott already liked Sam and since they spend alot of alone time together now that we have moved in together I am starting to get jealous since I am not being startled awake any longer. It's ok though, Scott isn't allowed to feed him because I'm greedy and Sam gets mad if Scott hogs me to much so We all know who is sam's Favorite. Me!
Enough about my babies, this is a kitten website. I am nervous and extremly excited to announce Blaze the fire tabby (corny i know, you know how kittens make people). I came to visit my future mother in law and was told I had a present. Sad thing is I knew there is a barn full of feral cats behind her house and it is spring time, We all know what happens, we are all adults here. Although we are good friends with the person who lived there before and he caught and "fixed" as many cats as he could and made sure he kept and help raise litters/moms. He had 3 litters when he started catching all the pregnant ones So, when I heard the word present I ran to the house where I was quickly directed to the couch where the boxer (Bailey) was eagerly ignoring our presence. The present was such a mystery, I know!
Blaze is so tiny, to my knowledge he is no more then 8 weeks. I was just as bad as the boxer trying to coax him out of his hiding. He isn't scared though, just likes playing in safety right now, its adorable. Bailey is a really good listener and although playful she always follows orders and I think Blaze is a little too smart because he keeps waiting till we have bailey still and he runs out ready to pounce then runs back to hide again. He's a Ham. He has only been around for a day and he got so comfertable just riding on my shoulder till scott stole him then as soon as I sat on the chair next to the couch, he braved his way past the dog in the wide open and came right back to me. He needed a little scooting on my part but he just laid down and moew till I pet him into a nap. There was a small barbaque going on and it got noisy and I thought he would freak. He just kept on napping until I would meow at him, then he would wake up and meow back and rub my face and go back to sleep.
I'm in over my head here guys this is where you come in! I have never owned a kitten and I know this sounds odd but I have never really owned a new cat. I got Sam in the 7th grade when he was four. I always had my "own" hamster, sometimes my sister and I would own a pair of gerbils, and to be honest my biggest I guess you can say challenge was the group of like 5 hermit crabs I had all at once (I still don't know how in the hell I got 5 hermit crabs) Sad thing about that though is they were all incorrectly pronounced dead now that I came acrossed a little know fact. Apparently the crab leaves his shell then goes pretty much dormant for a while (up to 2 weeks) then claims a new shell. Thats weird. I know. I am not sure if someone is playing a sick joke on me or not but I feel really bad for the drowned and burried alive now. I had to make peace with god and I'm not religous. Anyways so yeah, when I got sam I pretty much was in charge of the litter box and that was it but he was just for me. (Arn't my parents jerks. lol.) To be honest sam was easy even with out my parents so I dont know how I will do. Never owned or really been around a kitten. I have the obvious stuff down. Like Make sure he has his own kitten sized litter box with non clump litter (I was told non clump so if you can clear that up that would be awesome since same has it bad with UTI's and Its makes everyday cleaning a breeze) I wonder if I bought those Auto Cleaning cat boxes if they could share because sam is a LB freak and I am pretty sure they use clumping too. I know they need food water and toys. Those items are already checked off the list. Another thing though is his claws. He's got them, Sam was declawed before we got him (By the way coming from a future vet, declawing is like taking you own finger and cutting it at the very first knuckle. I'm just giving you something to chew on here) But back to the claws. I'm in the dark about claw training and clipping so insight is really needed. I'm pretty sure he uses his litter bax because Scotts mom said she thought he did but she didn't see him so I guess what I am trying to ask here is how do I go about litter training him? (btw if you ask are you also saying or can you not ask and say at the same time? I think some one has asked me that before?) Also and good home made toy ideas is good to know. So is how much supervision he is going to need and when will he be ok alone? I'm pretty sure if we give him like 95% at first he will get the hang of things quick but I'm not really in a hurry I just have school and scott has work but Sam gets alot of attention but doesn't beg for it so I think there time together will make up for our time apart. Another thing and I'm pretty sure the last is how do I go about the cats meeting? Sam, and his 11 years, has stayed pretty playful in has only been around 1 other cat before and was my aunts kitten. My kept the kitten in the bathroom for the most part but Sam found it right away and would leave poor sunshine alone. Then when I let them see eachother sam ended up kicking her in the head, but thats kinda sames personality. When he is down to party he is down to party when he isn't he's all like "really does it look like I want this" He can get rough some times though. He likes getting pestered which I think is weird but its always to a point then the just drops you and gives you what I guess you could call a time out? I question that because usually when you dont start picking on him again he gets made and picks on you all while being lovable. Thats why I love him though. He is a weird cat with a really strong personallity and I honestly have no idea as to what reaction I am going to get tomorrow. He might just be like you guys are jerks because he is upset he doesn't live with grandpa anymore and he had to drive 2 hours away from him buit he is finally ok now so.
Thanks for taking the time for me I really wanna do the right thing for Blaze since he is really coming for Scott. He needs his own pet to care for and we cant get a dog really, then sam would hit the fan and probally run away in retalliation. (He does that when I dog sit for my aunt then blames us for not looking hard enough and he has only been gone not even an hour) Our new place isn't for outdoor cats so I'm a little worried about that anyways. Thanks again for the help and if I didn't ask all the right questioins let me know.
