Dumb Question - Not About Kitties

  1. Hello Family,

As some of you know I am now in possession of my dad's car. I don't have any problems with the car, per se, but the alarm.

Whenever I get out of the car and hit the lock button it chirps. But inevitably awhile later, it starts cycling through the whole alarm for about half a minute and then it stops and resets itself. I don't know what causes this and I know it's probably something fairly simple. It has three remotes and no matter which remote I use, the same thing happens. I'm sure my neighbors see me getting into the car and moan because they know once I come back this will happen. I've tried reading the instructions and it SEEMS like I'm doing everything right, but I've never had this sort of trouble before. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? I really hate disturbing my neighbors, but I don't know how to keep this from happening.

  3. Don't feel bad, MC. Obviously I don't know anything about them either. :)

  4. I have no clue, either. What I'm wondering is if you have a car, does this mean Hud-man can come to the office with you? :)

  5. Not at $15 dollars a day to park he can't, GD. lol

I don't even drive to work unless there's something special going on. There's been something special going on just once since I've had the car - LOL.

  6. In my humble opinion....... unless it is a very expensive vehicle with all the bells and whistles...... I would get the alarm disabled. I think they are a p.i.a. in vehicles that are older, standard equipped, and not number one on the list for break-ins or theft...... And of course you do not leave any valuables sitting on the front seat. Then again, if you feel an alarm is necessary, have it checked out by the local dealership that sells that particular vehicle. There may be a short some where, causing the alarm to go off unnecessarily.

  7. Well, Huddy going to work would qualify at something special!

  8. TPIF - It's not a very expensive vehicle (02 Monte Carlo SS but only has 36K miles on it and it's a creampuff), but I'd be beyond crazy if anybody stole it.

It's something my dad left me, and I'm trying to take care of it until I can get it garaged (I live in an apt complex) which should be fairly soon. The dealership is around the corner, so I guess I'll go there. Even the Fink can't figure it out and he can figure out ANYthing.

In this city, you don't have a car without an alarm. It's just not smart. Hell, my first car (the first one I bought new and with my own money, WAS very expensive and had all the bells and whistles on it) was stolen out of a church parking lot when I was at mass 25 years ago. It was so new I never made a payment on it.

In this city you don't travel without a gun (yes I have a CHL) and a taser, and in this city you always err on the side of caution. It's scary, but it's better if you prepare yourself.

GD, that would be special, but he's way too big to go wo work with me now. He's behind me on a chair right now, and he takes up the whole seat cushion - LOL.

  12. HM......... Sorry.......I put my 2 cents in without knowing all the details. Not living in a big city, one tends to forget that other areas require other means for day to day "survival". From what you posted, I would definitely get the alarm system checked out...... Your creampuff is worth it!!!

  13. It sounds like it needs to be adjusted at the least, or it could have a short. If it continues to go off it could kill your battery. And a Monte SS is NOT a cheap car--keep it protected. I had a LoJack on mine as well as an alarm.

  14. Sheba's Mom could be right: it sounds like an electrical thing with your alarm system. I would suggest that you have my brother look at it, but I highly doubt you're going to send or drive the car from Houston to Cleveland.

  15. Figured it out. Hit the alarm button, and when it chirps, hit it again.

A shoutout to my Crazy Cackalacky Cousin for his suggestion.
