  1. Well Tdk I said i'd keep you updated concerning our friend Eric. I have another sad update. He has declined greatly since last I posted. Around Friday or Saturday they decided to take him off the air tubes again to see if he could sustain his own breathing. if he could then there is hope he could eventually go home. Well from what I heard the hospital left him on his own too long and the lack of suffiecent air to the brain he has declined more so. He has suffered some brain damage due to lack of enough oxygen and he now no longer responds or is aware of his surroundings and the saddest part is he no longer recognizes my brother a solid figure in his life for the past 15 years. The POA returns from his trip on Tuesday. When he does he will decide the next step. We are all pretty sure he will decide to unplug him and if he can't breathe on his own he will pass. Eric's time has finally run down. Thanks for keeping him in your thoughts and prayers.

  2. How sad and heartbreaking (not to mention the unfluffy things I have to say about the staff for not monitoring him correctly!) I am so sorry and sad and I offer my prayers for him, your brother and you and your family that so obviously love and care for and about him. There are no words but I'm sending a hug across the miles.

  5. Sorry to hear this and that the he wasn't monitored correctly. Sending you some hugs M2MC. I think a law suit is in order for mal-practice but that has to come from next of kin.

  21. Ange, I have been quietly following these posts. I can only offer this now, as a former hospice nurse. Life should be about quality, not quantity. And at this point, Eric does not have any quality of life. I'm sure that if he could express his wishes, he would want to be allowed to leave with dignity. It doesn't make this any easier, but the best thing for the patient should always be first and foremost in everyone's thoughts as to what to do.

  22. I understand WWM! Before this incident Eric was still planning to go back home even if he had to spend time in the home to get strong enough. After the last one though and with the damage to his brain there is no hope of that now. I agree and from what my brother has said Eric did say when he no longer had the quality of life and was aware of it he would rather jsut pass on. It has broken our hearts that this has come about but we also understand when HE calls no matter what the rest of us want HE will be heard and obeyed.

  23. This is such sad news, M2MC! I will keep all involved in my prayers, with a special one for Eric that when he answers The Call, that he can do so swiftly and painlessly, passing from difficulty here to joy and peace on the other side.

  30. I just don't understand why his POA is not there at this moment. If off on vacation...there is no excuse for them being absent.

    With that said...I'm so sorry for what all has happened to Eric. And I'm sending Prayers that he is not in any pain. Prayers for Peace in your Hearts for You & your Brother.

    {{{HUGS}}}
