  1. Light boxes are used to treat/prevent Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Some people suffer depression during winter months when the days are shorter. It's not as nutty as it sounds!

  2. Ah, you were too quick for me KW! I pasted the wrong link. Try again, nothing to do with SAD, that was for a friend!

  3. OK, now I get it. (I thought maybe I had gone mad!)

  4. You know, I was reading what you wrote, KW, and I thought-what in the heck does the light box have to do with an article about the teacher and the teddy bear? Did I miss something in the article?

Now I understand!! That is really sad, that she should be punished so severely for something so simple. But maybe it's only simple to us, not to them.

  5. MCW, read that article about the teacher and the teddy bear...but then again its that society and their beliefs...sigh.

  6. Gone mad?? It's been that way for quite a while over there. We are just starting to hear about it thanks to world wide news networks.

It's simply a case of religious oppression MMM, nothing else.

  7. AOL posted the title of their article as What Did Children Name Teddy Bear. I thought I was going to read another teacher-gone-wrong story where she exposed herself to little ones and they named an anatomical part of her Teddy Bear. I've gone mad. But hey, I live in the land where a mother took the possession of Harry Potter books by the school library to trial because they taught witchcraft and magic. But as a friend of mine stated, they teach nothing that works.

  8. Fundamentalist extremists of ANY creed are the most intolerant people around.
"Religion" is a man-made institution, just like "Politics";and as such, entwines itself with the latter.True Spirituality has little or nothing to do with "Religion" nor "Politics" at it's core, and seeks to unite ALL people rather than dividing them into sectarian camps seeking to trample over others in the name of their puny,SELF-centered xenophobic screeds.
Thank you for hearing me out.
    Peace be with you. :)

  10. Didn't it say the KIDS named the teddy bear? I don't get it. Why punish the teacher so severely for that? Remind me never to visit that part of the world. I might say something offensive and get stoned or something. sheez.

I agree with Tigger. If everyone would just get over themselves and stop being offended by every little thing the world would be a much nicer place to live.

  11. Tigger you have got it exactly as I have thought. "You have hit it right on the nail". Can I get an amen brother? Amen!

  12. An unreservedly sectarian viewpoint here, to the Islamic fanatics of Sudan from the Judeo-Christian scriptures:

    Psalm 2
    1. Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? 2. The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, 3. Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. 4. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the LORD shall have them in derision. 5. Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.

  13. You must remember everyone that you are talking about a region of the world that has institutionalized it's xenophobia and insecurities to a point that anything that disagrees with them MUST be destroyed.

Women have to be covered from head to toe so that they don't 'inflame the passions of men" Which means the men aren't mentally mature enough to control themselves.

Rather than face their own problems and fix them, they project those problems and say that it is everyone else who is wrong

  14. Go tigger, go. I agree wholeheartedly.
But please remember, not everyone is extremist in their views, even muslims.

  15. Many British Muslims are joining in the outcry against the sentence and some leaders are even flying to the Sudan to try to bring her back home.

Imagine the poor kids' trauma, having this happen to their teacher after they named the bear.

I'd love to say that other countries should cut off all aid to Sudan until she is permitted to leave the country and gets an apology, but I suspect what would happen is the government and the nutjobs would be just fine and it's the innocent people who would go hungry. That's always how it goes.

And that poor woman in Saudi Arabia...

It seems like every body of belief has to go through a period of savagery--Judaism had its "slaughter 'em all" phases pretty well document, Christianity had the Middle Ages and the nastier bits of the Reformation, Socialism/Communism is responsible for the largest body counts of the 20th century, and now Islam is going nutso. The only problem is that our weapons keep getting better and better while our brains and hearts don't...

  16. Eileen;I share your faith,so I concur on many points. However,my faith informs me that Christianity is neither a "sect" nor a "religion",as both terms denote schools of thought or philosophy created by humans. Whereas Christianity is directly inspired by God through His Son who was fully God AND man,Christ Jesus. The Old Testament is crucial to understanding whereof Christ spoke to the crowds & the Sanhedrin and Pharisees as the fulfillment and transformation of Mosaic Law.But a funny thing seems to have happened on the way to the 20th & 21st century wars of "religion".The Muslim fundamentalist extremists seem to have conveniently forgotten half of Mohammed's teachings and commandments. And the Christian fundamentalist extremists have in their own zealousness conveniently shifted the basis for their arguments away from Jesus and the Letters of Paul to Christians towards the dark wrath of God in the Old Testament!! I would submit that Christ is right here, right now for the redemption of ALL. It is not for ANY of us to judge WHO is the more elect or who's gonna' get what for whatever. If we all but turn and repent of the ugliness that is our sinful nature and embrace him whom He sent us,that is the main requirement for everyone's salvation, your's AND mine and the hate-fueler down the street or across the globe. This is not directed to you,Eileen, but to all. And it's just MY humble faith, that I alone must reckon with.
    Much peace to everybody! :)

  17. WOW Tigger. I knew there was a reason I like you. Now I know why. Well said man. Christ's message was about love not hate. I try to live out my faith in that light. Peace to you brother.

  18. And also with you,sister.

  19. i understand how sensitive religious things can be, but even i have muslim friends, and we all agree that what the teacher did was NOT bad. hell, there's a tori amos song called my friend mohammed. as long as it isn't used in a disrespectful way, there should be no concern. it was a tribute to a kid in the class! should his parents have been punished for call HIM mohammed??? some folks go a little overboard. soemtimes it's needed, other times it's NOT. they need to focus on those who do stupid acts in the name of religion, or who go and shame religion in other ways, and leave people like this alone. like the ones who go and marry for citizenship, or who have multiple wives, etc.

  22. I also was particularly upset at the comments by the director of the school! He, above all should know the hearts and minds and innocence of the act of naming the teddy bear...instead he says,"It's a very fair verdict".. BALDERDASH and shame on him...UGH!!! So much frustration surrounding us in this world! Anyone like a nice glass of Robert Mondavi Chardonnay or Fume Blanc? I'm pouring....

Posted 2 years ago by Karenopa #

  23. Karen...you still drink Robert Mondavi?

  24. Last update on this was that she is going back to the UK. At least they released her from prison. Too bad she lost her job over this.

Posted 2 years ago by angel #

  25. thnks all! :) and ill tell u that comes from a pretty religious woman! hahah. im glad to hear they pardoned her. actually, i have to give the woman kudos for trying to induce some positiveness in the classroom. and sadly, it's not just these fank-wango nutball overzealous types that twist the ideas, but soceity in general has some preety screwy priorities. we, as a world wide network of human beings, despite our differences in culture and opinion need to truly realise what is good bad, right, wrong, and stop making stupid excuses.:) if we get right down to it, it's pretty simple...basically worry about common sense morals and ur set. that works for all...all religions, those who r not religious, all cultures, etc. it's a universal thingeroonie! hugs to ya all..

maybe they all need more cats lol
