I haven't slept for days and feel terrible!I killed my kitten by mistake!!On Monday,he crept into the engine.Not knowing I started the engine,then I heard something in the engine and turned it off straight away but it was too late;he had snapped his neck. It took us one hour to remove him from the car because he was stuck. I feel awful and I am really miserable.

I'm so very sorry...words can't fully express...
You came to the right place to help give you eventual peace. Accidents do happen. {{{Bertz}}}Posted 2 years ago by JoanfromNewJersey #

Dearest Bertz - I am so sorry your baby kitty has passed in such a tragic way, but please remember that, as you stated, it was a terrible ACCIDENT. You didn't do it on purpose. Had you known your kitty was there you never would have started the car. I know it's fruitless to say but please try and be easier on yourself. You didn't do it on purpose. Your kitty went fast to the Rainbow Bridge (there is a thread here now about that if you are unfamiliar with it) and he still loves you! Please stay with our group and share. You will find lots of love and support here. What is his name?

That happened to my mom many years ago. She was taking me to school, and when she started the engine, we heard chop-chop-chop and then it cut off. She lifted the hood and there it was- one dead kitty and a broken fan belt. I had to find another ride to school that day. It was on a cold winter morning and we thought why would the cat snuggle up to a cold engine? Anyway, it was an accident. Don't worry over something not your fault. Just be happy in knowing your kitty has gone to the Bridge, as all animals do.

Kitties are known to snuggle into car engines when they are still warm from being driven, hence most of these incidents happen in the mornings when the cool weather sets in. It's a good idea to pound on the hood before starting the car.

I am so sorry, I know it is a horrible thing to happen, but it WAS an ACCIDENT and they do happen. Kitties like to be where it is warm, but in no way was this your fault....I like Lainey's idea of pounding on the hood of the car, I wouldn't have thought of that, either. Please don't be too hard on yourself {{{BERTZ}}}

((((Bertz)))) my heart aches for you. There's no way for you to have known the kitty was in the engine compartment. No words can take away the pain of your loss but you musn't blame yourself for this. I'm quite sure this kitty was asleep and it happened so quickly that he didn't have time to suffer. Sending you healing prayers and positive thoughts.

So sorry, but it WAS an accident and is a common thing--cats like to hide under car hoods. I always bang on it first when it is cold outside.

I'm sorry for your loss, Bertz. Kittens and cats can crawl into the darndest places. Tragic accidents like this happen on a regular basis. Please don't beat yourself up. If you had any idea this kitten was hiding in your car's engine compartment, you would not have started the car. Thank you for sharing your heart and home with this little one during the short time he was with you.
