My newest addition to the family, Lulu, is driving me up the wall. She claws everything, and pees all over the floors. I want to get some of those caps you can fit over her claws, but I don't know what to do about the carpets. I've tried squirting her in the act, I've tried spot cleaners with enzyme removers, I've tried cayenne pepper.. I've had no luck. I plan on renting a steam cleaner when I get the extra cash, but I'm afraid she'll keep peeing. She's also got so much energy that I have no idea what to do with her. I'm just so frustrated with her.

I don't know what to do

Oh dear, it's very hard when a kitten is this lively. This is the little girl in your photos is it? So, she's 3 or 4 months old now? The only thing is time. She has to settle down and get to know her place in the household, and pecking order if there are other cats, and just get to that balance between being fun and being calm. After she's spayed she will calm down for sure, and that's probably not too far off now.

A UTI is the first thing I would have checked.
Is she a kitten? If so, is there a litter box for her with short sides? Is her box in a place where she feels secure. If the other annals are pestering her when she's in the box, she might be avoiding it.
If you can put her and her box into a smaller room (bathrooms are perfect) with her food/water on the other side of the room, that may get her used to using the box.
There's a product called Cat Attract,

that helps train cats to use litter. There's also a variation called Kitten Attract by the same maker. It's not cheap but you don't need much and once she's going in the box, you can replace it with regular litter.Posted 2 years ago by CheetahBoysmommy #

She's got a scratching post that she adores, she just loves to scratch everything else too. I've had her for about 2 months, so I would say she's about 3.5 months old. She's become the boss of the household, Chuck and Angie aren't very dominant or alpha-like. I just got a voucher in the mail to get her spayed, I just have to wait for a day off to get it done.

She doesn't avoid the box, if anything else she's the one to pester the others while they're using it. She does a majority of her potty-ing in the box, but I've caught her peeing on the carpets several times. I've sprinkled cayenne pepper in the spots she goes on, which also happen to be the spots that Angie used to go when she was younger. I've doused the carpet with PetZyme, but it still stinks. I think she's going because she can still smell it in the carpet, I just can't get the stink out of it.

I have found that cats can become possessive with their litterboxes -- especially the females. She may need her own box...away from the other cats.

I think you're right about her being attracted to a spot where another cat previously urinated, Jymberry. Particularly if she has a dominant personality, she may be trying to cover Angie's scent with her own. And it is just about impossible to get out the odor entirely. I've read that cats can smell an incredibly small trace of an odor that humans can't detect.

Hey CR! Love the avatar. Jym, for now, get some of those pads like they use in nursing homes and put them over the spot where she is peeing. That will at least catch it and show if there is any blood in her urine. When you take her for the spaying, have the vet check for a UTI.

My firends hae a senior cat who insists on peeing on a specific spot so that is what they do.

At last resort put her food dish over the spot--cats won't pee where they eat. I've used Nature's Miracle--make sure you cover the spot after using it with foil so it has time to work. You may need to do it more than once, but keep the spot wet with the product. If the pee has soaked into the pad under the carpet it will take longer---try replacing that section of the padding.

I haven't used Feliaway, but I do use a mixture of white vinegar with water. I use 1/3 vinegar and 2/3 water, put it in a spray bottle and spray the area. Dogs and cats do not like the smell and it also takes away the pee smell. You will have to spray everyday until she stops using that area. It also helps take smoke smell out of a car or room, just pour mixture in a bowl and leave it for 24 to 48 hours. Good luck.
