  1. I have had two cats, both individually and they were the pets of my lifetime. Both lived to ripe old ages. Spooky, the moniker I use is in her honor. She was very smart and "trained." Yes, cats can learn too (not jump on kitchen cabinets, not claw furniture, come when called). I would never impose carnival stunts on my cats but do believe in cohabiting peacefully.

Recently, I adopted two female litter mates at 9 weeks old. I have had them 36 hours. My fear is they will bond with each other and I will be disappointed by the delightful experience I had with my last two cats.

Am I afraid that I won't have the bond with these cats for nothing? I know this sounds awful. Please, I am trying to cope with this and need support. I am looking forward to twice the affection and am already seeing distinct personalities of the two new kittens.

  2. Every kitty relationship is different. They are all new and fresh experiences. Regardless of their entry into your home ( as individuals, in pairs or groups) they will bond with you and each other and bring their own joy and fun as will as frustration and heartache. Do not fear that you will be left out.

  3. Well said Ailuromaniac! Hi Spooky and welcome to TDK! So happy to hear you have gotten a pair of kitties. I'm a firm believer there's joy in numbers. I have 4 sibblings (2 male 2 female) that we rescued shortly after birth and each of them display different personalities, relating each to one another differently and the same with my bf and I. Con'cat'ulations on your new family and hopefully we'll get to see pics of them. If you click on my avatar pic it will lead you to a Catster link to my family of 4! =)

  6. To all who replied to my post -- Thank You! The kittens have tentative names: Bella & Luna. The wife and I are still thinking of names but these seem to fit their personalities. Bella, a Siamese mix is so sweet it would break your heart. Luna, the little black sheep is a bit more gregarious and very smart. They are both very calm kittens -- as far as kittens go. We are "kitten proofing" as much as possible, each area of the house as they are introduced into the home. Again, thank you.

  10. @Sheba's mom - LOL!

I agree - every cat I own has bonded with me, on a separate level than they have bonded with each other. I've never had two littermates, but as long as they are not ferel, I feel certain you will have endless opportunities for playing with them individually and together. My kitties have learned to take turns (as kittens they often interrupt, but as they grow into cats, they actually take turns) playing with me and some toy.

I make sure to give each of them individual attention every morning when I get up, and every evening when I get home. Some of them really look forward to that, and others seem to almost take me for granted. Every animal has their own personality, and I'm sure your two will develop too. Having two at the same age is better for them, because they won't get as bored and be more likely to destroy your household.

Welcome to TDK and congrats on the new kittens!
