Congrats! You've been with him since you are 14, then? I would not rush into this, you have no one to compare him to. I made the mistake of getting engaged at 18 and he was not my first boyfriend.

Congratulations! I say have a real long engagement and some people will gasp at this, but move in with him - live together before you walk down the aisle!
I was engaged at 18 as well, I thought he was the man for me! We moved in together and wow he was a total different person ! When you just spend time even a lot of time with someone they can still hide the side of them that isnt very flattering. I am glad I was able to see him for the real person he was before I was married to him, I would have been divorced by 21 !
I am happy for you, this is a very exciting time enjoy it !!

Concats to you! Please do think it thru before the "big day". Here I am almost 40, never married, almost twice. Glad I didn't either time. I would have rushed into it to fast and certainly would have been divorced had I done it. That being said, I have a friend who got pregnant at 12, married at 16 and still together over 20 years later. It CAN work out! YAY!

Congratulations, ILCF! I met my husband (soon to be 27 years married) when I was 13 so I know that even though you are young it can be forever!

Congratulations ILCF, a long engagement has it's merits, believe me. We were engaged for 17 months. I also agree with the moving in together, if that's something you are fine with as you do get to find out more about each other, things that you might not normally see when you live apart. We have just helped move our recently engaged daughter and her fiancee in together. Support from all parents is important too. Love the ring ILCF, it's a stunner.

I too, was engaged at 18, and married at 19. It was different back then..1966. My mother could not forbid the union, as she had married my dad at 19, who was a military officer. My betrothed was also an officer in the military. I had the upper hand in that one!!!! My only advice would to be to have financial stability before marriage. Get those college degrees, and be debt free as much as possible. It's hard, but in the long run, will be alot less stressful. Just to clarify...there have been many that have succeeded w/o college degrees....but those are few and far between. Oh, and your ring is gorgeous!!!! And hats off to Annie R!!!!!

Congratulations. I have to voice the same as many on here. 18 is very young. You have been with him for 4 years--since you were 14. You do not have a lot of dating experience. Will you be able to continue your education? It is something you should consider. Jobs without a degree in this economy are nearly nonexistant. It can be oh so difficult when starting out when money just isn't there. You are absolutely right that it has been done before and VERY successfully! Just make sure you have thought it through. May you enjoy a very long and happy life.

Many congratulations ILCF! - and as long as you're happy and know what you want that's fine. You don't have to be young to make bad decisions, or older to make wise ones. The very of luck and love to you both :o)
