   Hi!
   My fiance and I just got a new kitten Yesterday named Dinah. I was told she was 7 wks. I had a few questions...
   Yesterday she pooped in the floor i cleaned it up and everytime i saw her eating or drinking, I'd wait a minute and take her into bathroom where her litter box is and simulate the scratching gently with her paws. She's used it a few times since then, but the only time she did on her own was over night when i had her shut into the bathroom. The rest of the times I had to take her into the bathroom and set her in the box. She peed on the floor where she pooped yesterday so i cleaned it up and set some stuff in that corner so she can't get to it. Her box isn't that far away. she spends most of her time in the den and her food and the litter box are about equal distance since the kitchen is on one side of the den and the main bathroom is on the other side. I don't know how to get her to go in there on her own.

   I'm also wondering if she's not as active as she should be. Mostly she just sleeps in my lap. I figured she'd be running around a bit more.

   Also yesterday when we got her home i noticed a little eye boogie in her right eye. i wiped it off gently but then later there was another one. This morning he eye was almost glued shut with it. Is this the symptom of that Upper Respiratory disease I've read about, or is this normal?

   Hi Violet and welcome to TDK! Have you taken Dinah to the vet, yet? A good check up is in order. Also, are her litter box and food close to each other? Cats don't like them to be too close together. It's good that she uses the box when encouraged but if she is 7 weeks she should be going in there on her own. More experienced kitty moms and dads will pipe in soon. Weekends are usually slow here, even though it's Friday.

   Hi, Violet. I agree with Lainey, recurring goop in the eyes and reduced activity is defintely a signal for a vet visit. If she didn't get her kitten shots at the place you got her, she needs them now. And the vet can address the eye problem at the same time.

   If she is having accidents and your bathroom is large enough to properly space the food/water and litter box I would keep her in there or some other confined space until she gets the litter training down. It is kind of akin to crate training a puppy. It doesn't make her have to go a far distance when the urge hits. Dinah just might not be old enough to make it that far or have the bladder control needed to make the trek (while not far, at her size it probably seems like trying to get across a large shopping center!).

   Ditto the advice for the vet visit. Depending on where you got her she may have never seen a vet, she may have been exposed to many cats, etc.

   She may not be as old as you were told she was. A vet can give you a better idea of her age. If she has a cold, she needs to see the vet sooner, not later. It doesn't take very long for a little kitty to get dehydrated.

   Is her litter box the right size for her? If she's really small, she needs a box that has low sides.

   Hi and welcome to TDK! Congratulations on getting little Dinah! It's always a real good idea to get a new kitty in for a checkup and shots right away. It's also very common for young kittens to have worms and should probably be wormed as well. As far as the sleeping goes...well...it's common for cats to sleep for as many as 16 to 18 hours a day. I know it sounds crazy...but it's true. So once you're sure your little one is completely healthy relax and know that while they're sleeping so much they're doing alot of growing. I suspect they may also be plotting on how to take over our households....lol...and doing very well at it I'd say!!!! =D

   Hi VW (love your screen name!), welcome to TDK! Yes, you need to take the little one to the vet for a thorough check up - and once she's got a clean bill of health, look for the cat litter that's designed to get them into the habit of using a tray - I think it's called Cat Attract, someone else will confirm!    I'm Sorry i didnt explain correctly her food is in the kitchen her box is in the bathroom i meant that they are equal distance from where she usually is

    Good, because from her picture she looks younger than 7 weeks. The litter IS called Cat Attract and they also have one for kittens. Since she went back to the same spot she pooped in, the smell must still be there. Use Nature's Miracle on the spot and cover it with foil for several days. Both products can be found at PerSmart and Petco. Good luck, welcome, and let us know how she is doing---we care!

    Well I took Dinah to the vet this afternoon she has an upper respiratory infection and coccidia. They gave us lots of medicine for her and I'm taking her back next monday so they can see if she's getting better. The doc said she is seven weeks just little lol.
    She has started doing to the litterbox on her own, and has started getting more active so hopefully here in a week or two she'll be good as new.

    Well Dinah is doing much better her infection is gone, and I have to take a stool sample to the vet in a couple of days to see if the coccidia is gone.
