  1. Well, I guess I'll start at the beginning, first let me apoligize in advance, its kind of a long story.
So my daughter will turn 5 in two days, and for at least 2 years she was wanted a kitten, so we recently moved back to my hometown, after living in texas for over 2 years, and we are now in a part of our lives that we are ready to have a kitten. So yesterday was adopt a pet at PetsMart, so we went and the only kitten available to adopt wouldn't be ready till next weekend. So we checked the newspaper and there were a few listings for free kittens, so I made many calls, left messages and finally, well only after about 30 minutes a woman called back. She said she had 1 kitten left from the litter and we could go get her, so we did. Well we bought all the stuff a kitten needs, the kind of food she was already eating, meow mix, litter box, toys, etc. And when we brought her to her new home my daughter wanted to hold her, I said it was ok, with supervision of course, but to soon put her down so she could get use to her new home and let her wonder around. Well she hid behind the fridge and I noticed there was a hole in the wall, I guess so you can get to the plumbing to the bathtub. So we waited for her to come out on her own. My cousin and her bf were there and she went walk around outside and found the kitten in the bushes outside, but her flea collar wasn't on, we figured she lost in when she was roaming in the walls. So 4 adults and 1 child are chasing this kitten for at least 2 hours, its starting to rain, and we are all getting filthy, we have a huge ditch behind the neighbors house, she ran through it and under the fence across the way. We officially lost her. Well just at that moment another lady calls back asking if we still needed a kitten
So after talking to family, friends, my daughter, and fiancee we decided to try this again, we covered the hole, made sure there were no more and went to get the 2nd kitten. I told the very nice lady this whole story while hailee, my daughter was trying to decide which one to get, and the ladys husband recommended we get 2, sisters from the same litter so they would have a companion and it would be better all around. So we did. These kittens are a little older, and bigger than the 1st kitten.
When we brought them home 1 just really liked me, sat on the couch with me and the other let my daughter and her 2 friends carry her around like a baby, played and was perfect for her, we names her hannah, and the one who liked me miley. Like hannah montaana. So after a long day the 2 kittens fell asleep together on the couch, THEN I heard a little "meow, meow".
Miley and hannah are asleep, the 1st kitten is back? So removed the fridge again, unblocked the whole and tried luring her out, she came out finally. We repatched the hole and now we have 3 kittens.
When we woke up this morning the litter box had been used, some of the food had been eaten and water, great!
Well here comes the problem, the 2 sister kittens and the 1st kitten hiss at each other and now they are all hiding, even the sisters seem not to want to have anything to do with us.
    So what should I do?
Any suggestions? I'm considering finding a home for the 1st kitten, whom we have named Heidi, since she hides so much. But I'm really not sure where to go from here. PLEASE HELP

  2. Wow! What an adventure!

Lots of times, kitties don't always react well at first to a newcomer. The sisters know each other, and Heidi is a new face and smell to them. Give it time, and don't give up on Heidi.....it sounds to me like she's really been through a traumatic experience!

  3. Hi Raven, sorry to hear about all your kitten troubles, the kittens will get used to each other in time if you can keep them. I feel kinda bad for the first kitten since she was there first, she's hiding because she is younger than the others and because she's in a new place but can you afford 3 cats? They need to be tested and have their shots and hopefully be fixed when they are of age.
Welcome to TDK!!! Sundays are kinda slow but other people will log on and give you advice too, just keep checking back. :)

  4. Thanks to all who replied, just an update on how its going hannah, one of the sisters, is back to being very friendly, thank goodness. We left them at home today to see what would happen, and when my fiancee opened the door all three were on the couch, however not together but still I guess it a lot of progress. Now miley and heidi are back hiding under the couch. I think with in a few days they should all be getting along and coming out of their hiding. Or at least I hope.....

  5. Our family is into animal rescue and we have rescued more than three (all get fixed, of course). Do all of them get along when a new one comes in - no - it takes time. And then they have their spats. Some are never as outgoing as others but each has a distinct personality and we wouldn't have it any other way. Just let them be themselves. Don't you notice people are the same way? Watch new people come into, say, your church for instance. They get acquainted slowly - often sit at the back at first and then, as they get use to the place, and get to know others, they mix in with everybody else. As for expense, where we live there is a traveling vet to whom we take our cats and all we pay for is the cost of the shots - which is quite a bit less than at a vet's office - and - there is no office fee etc. We also get catalogs from companies like Omaha Vaccine and Dr. Foster Smith. Once you get on their mailing lists, then others will offer you their animal product magazines too. Then you can get your medicines like Advantage and Frontline from them and save the expense (like a lot of mail order products, it is cheaper this way) and time etc. that would be the case going to a vet's office. I hope you will get your three little girls fixed when the appropriate times comes. It will make your life easier, be better for the animals and help reduce the over population of cats and kittens. I have read that there are 10 million cats and dogs killed at animal shelters in this country every year. We can help stop this from happening, or at least not be part of the problem.

  6. Just wanted to give everyone an update. All 3 kittens were out and playing this morning, however heidi and miley are still hissing at each other, but I think with all the progress they have made already everything will be fine. And the greatest news of all is next month they will all be getting there shots and once they are old enough they will be fixed. There is a pet shot event at a local school next month that it will only cost $7 per kitten to get all their shots, what a blessing. I would have paid whatever it would have costed at the vet, but she told me about the event, wow!
So thanks for all they replies and any more advise would be greatly appreciated!
