OMG-I Don't Know What to DO!

(47 posts)
  1. Hissy finally came home(she was home yesterday morning) again to eat. She's been attacked again. I didn't think she'd show up since I put the lrg.dog cage out there to try & set up a trap for her again. Then the stupid neighbor on the other side of our fence decided to mow his lawn & scared her away. She now has several puncture wounds on her back w/2 looking quite deep (& that's w/binoculars). Her fur & skin has been torn off on 1 side of her face from her ear to her neck. I'm devastated & don't know what to do. I don't know where she is hiding but,it's clear it's not a safe place. I don't know why she won't stay close to home. The racoons & possums aren't around the yard because I pick up the dishes at night to deter them. OMG...she's injured so bad. I was finally feeling like I had a chance to get ahold of the my situation & it's now landed straight in the sh***er again!

  2. I'm so sorry, Susie. I wish I could help you catch her and get her to a vet. Life as a feral cat has so many dangers. Lots of white light and prayers being sent your way that she allows herself to be caught and treated. {{{{hugs}}}}

    I wish I had some comforting words for you. Poor baby. I pray that she's okay and will get better soon.

  4. I've trapped cats over the yrs. And at least 2 of them had eye injuries so bad they lost them but, Hissy's injuries are far worse. And with her being on the side of caution to the point of being next to impossible to entice w/any kind of food,I can only watch in horror as she continues to be mutilated. I don't understand why she isn't keeping her distance from the racoon. They all have been smart about steering clear until now. I'm afraid that w/her injuries,the racoon is being enticed by the smell of her blood.
    If I set up the trap,she may not go near it, no matter what I put in it (even if she's hungry). She's that way. And besides...the ants & flies have become such a problem that they would swarm the food before she could even smell it & she definately won't go near it w/the insects all over it.
    I'm so distraught that I keep hyperventilating from crying. Even Hopper knows there's something clearly wrong & is trying to comfort me. But, all I keep seeing are Hissy's bloody injuries. I just want this madness in my life to stop.

  5. Susie keep trying to think of how you can try to trap her. If she won' t allow herself to trapped, all you can do is give her food and water. You live out where ther are lots of wild life and they will tangle with the mobile park's feral cats. I am very worried about Ms. Hissy and her wounds and if there is any way to trap her and get her to a vet asap, let me know if I can help.

  6. Thanks Karin...It was hard enuf seeing her hurt the first time but, to see her hurt extensively like she is now, I get that suffocating & overwhelmed feeling I use to get when I had 23 ferals. I feel desperate,anxious,helpless & a whole lot of frustration at why this had to happen now when I'm so busy w/other things.

  7. *sobbing* Susie...I'm speechless. Praying for ANYTHING good to happen here. =(

  8. I am so sorry to hear this. I have to say that I don't know how anyone does what you are doing because I know I am not cut out for this kind or rescue work. But please do stay strong.

  10. You are limited by what Ms. Hissy will let you do for her. She doesn't understand your kind and loving heart. Distrust of humans has kept her alive all her life. All you can do is offer her food and water. (You've done an incredible job to get her to trust you that much. ) From your description of Ms. Hissy and the conditions in the park she is extremely unlikely to go into a trap. This is so heartbreaking. Even if she could be caught, she may be too badly injured to make it.

    I'm not saying these things to discourage you. You are such a wonderful woman to care so deeply about the ferals in your area. I admire you. You've already made Ms. Hissy's life so much better than it would have been. You saved her from having many additional litters. Please take good care of yourself. {{{hugs}}}

  11. Remember that a feral cat just doesn't trust any other animal, even when they are trying to help. I think she knows you love her, or she wouldn't keep coming back. She knows you care for her, but she is unwilling to get help that she really needs. You are doing the very best you can with the situation. Please know that sometimes prayers are all that can be offered to help a situation, and this may be one of those times. My prayers that she will allow you to help have not ended. My prayers of strength and comfort for you are also unceasing.

  12. Susie, can you discuss the situation with a friendly vet or shelter person? It would be possible to sedate Miss Hissy by crushing tablets into her food, and then maybe you could get to her and take her to a vet. I know when I was trying to catch a feral pregnant cat once (Libby's mum), the shelter gave me some tablets for that purpose. (They didn't quite do the job but then Libby's mum wasn't injured.) My heart aches for you and Miss Hissy. In the end, though, feral cats control their own lives and all we can do is offer help.{{{Susie}}}

  13. Thanks you guys for your words of comfort. I'm afraid Hissy hasn't been back since this morning. I'm scared to death that she'll be attacked again if she doesn't change her place of hiding. I also put my humane trap out & set. If she doesn't go in,I'm helpless to do anything else. If I trap a racoon or possum,they'll be changing their place of residence to a few miles down the road. I'm hardcore exhausted to my bones right now & need a miracle of Hissy getting trapped so I don't have to transport other critters.

    Jcat...It's funny you mention sedation meds. I'd already tried that a couple yrs. back when I'd already spent 3 yrs.trying to catch her. Too much of the meds had to be put in the food at 1 time in order to work...& Ms. smartypaws was able to smell & taste it & never got enuf in her to knock her for a loop.

    I can only beg that she doesn't get attacked again & I can some how trap her.

  14. (((((Feral)))))) Prayers of comfort to you and prayers for Ms. Hissy's safety and healing.

  15. If anyone can trap her it is you. You have been very successful with that. Prayers of a successful capture and then some TLC. My daughter said a prayer for her too. With everyone collectively praying perhaps she will walk into the trap and be able to heal.

  16. I appreciate all the Prayers & the confidence.I'm feeling like I'm too old for this kind of life anymore. I don't have the stamina. And I clearly don't have the stomach or the emotional strength to see any animals suffer,let alone my own feral rescues. She just came home & ate,only this time she was with her daughter,Prettygirl. She won't use Pretty's smarts tho. Pretty is up on the neighbors shed roof,safe from harm. I sat at the window & talked softly to her & she did take on a calming effect from that but,I'm afraid she's going to go right back to the area she keeps getting hurt. She did spot the trap,altho it was covered but, at least she didn't panic & take off.

  17. Susie I pray Ms Hissy will be safe tonight and will allow herself to be caught. You are doing the best that can be done. Sending prayers and hugs.

    Posted 6 months ago by SylvesterMiasMomma #

  18. Susie, I know how much you are hurting, as much as she is. There doesn't seem to be anything more you can do, it's up tp her & God now. It's a miracle she's survived this long--you know they usually only live 3 years outside because of just this type of thing. All we can do is pray for the best. {{{HUGS}}}

    Posted 6 months ago by Sheba's Mom in Phx, AZ #

  19. Susie, it may still be worth a try, to try and sedate her. She is weaker right now, it may not take as many meds as it once did to knock her out.

    But probably you are her only source of food right now, and if it didn't work, she may not want to come to you again to eat, so it might not be the best thing. It's a hard situation but you care more than anyone else about these poor babies, you do all that you can and way way more. As everyone else says, all we can do is hope. {{{Susie}}}

  20. Susie - All my prayers are with you and Miss Hissy. It sounds as if she is too far gone to save her, but as long as she is still moving around, there may be hope yet. Do try to sedate her. I agree with Jcat, it might work better now. We will all keep hoping and praying for you and her.

  21. Susie...Have I told you lately how amazing you truly are? To have devoted yourself entirely for so many years to these ferals is so selfless. It breaks my heart to hear of Ms. Hissy's condition but as with all good things we succeed in there's always a percentage of losses. I pray we don't lose Ms.Hissy but if we do Susie...I know you've done everything humanly possible to aid in her long and happy life. Sending you thoughts, hopes and prayers. {{{Susie & Ms. Hissy}}}

  22. Thanks Sis...I'm really no hero. In the beginning it was selfishness...we just wanted all the stray cats out of the neighborhood(cuz of Mobilehome Park pet rules). But, it didn't take more than a day to get to love these innocent victims. We create a habit(so they say)in 21 days. Years later & in poverty,I have a whole bunch of fuzzies that think I'm their mom.
    I was so worn out last night from working out in the heat that I knew I wouldn't be able to take care of transporting any racoons or possums if they tripped the trap,so I brought the trap back in.
    No sightings yet of Hissy this morning. I'm actually too afraid to spot her not knowing if she stayed safe last night. Even laying down,I didn't sleep at all & didn't hear any fighting going on. I hope she is healing & not hurt again.
    BTW...that's Ms. Hissy in my avatar (just before I finally trapped her after 3 yrs.attempting). I have only a few pics of her cuz of her lightening speed. My neighbor,myself & Karin (SMM) are the only ones who have been inches away from touching her. And I was only able to pet her for a brief time while she was still sedated after her spaying.

  23. {{Hissy}}} Susie, you are so much stronger than you realize and you have the power of TDK prayer behind you everyday! I noticed Hissy as your avatar even though I had such a quick glimpse of her last year...She is lighting fast!! mostly I saw her tail haha...I'm still praying for you and Hissy!! Nice hearing your voice again this weekend!

  24. That must have been amazing to be able to pet her while she was under sedation. A rare moment. Whatever brought you into the lives of these animals...you've done so much for them. You are a real Angel Susie and I pray God's blessings for you everyday. It has taken alot out of you but I see so many others' living their lives in this world with no purpose or progress. We need so many others just like you. Love You Sis! =)

  27. Prayers for Ms. Hissy's healing going up and prayers for you too.
    {{{{{{{{{{Ms. Hissy and Feral}}}}}}}}}}} You are such a blessing to your sweet babies. You have tons of prayers going up and white light for Ms. Hissy. Don't give up! Even if the worst happens, you have helped her so much and she knows deep down, past her instincts, that you love her. My heart goes out to you and Ms. Hissy.

  29. Thanks sooooo much all of you for your Prayers & comforting words. Ms. Hissy has shown up now for 2 meals in a row. Yay. I keep getting nervous when it starts getting dark. I want desperately for her to stay closer to home where she'll be safer from any more possible attacks. she clearly looks worn out(probably from not sleeping well herself). After all the yrs. of rescuing & owning cats,or them owning me, I still don't understand them. They have the most comfortable,warm & soft bed up high on a picnic table where none of the wild critters go near, & yet none of them will sleep on it.
    I'm crossing all fingers & paws here that she continue to heal & stays safe from any more attacks.

  30. Continued prayers for Ms. Hissy and all your furbabies and for you, too, Feral.
