  1. I'm having a terrible time with money and recently used my blog to advertise some pen sketches for sale.
After about an hour of posting the blog entry, I received a rather nasty email telling me that I am money hungry and need to stop taking advantage of kind people.
I would like to ask your thoughts (I'm really not trying to advertise any of this, I promise) as I am really worried about the integrity of my blog. That of which I have worked very hard for.

    It is this post.

I understand that these are tough times and asking for money is rather shallow, but the only donations that I am asking for are not for myself. As much as I would like to make a quick buck (who doesn't), I strive on working hard for my money and earning every cent. Maybe I should change the price?

I've been so stressed my mind just can't think straight, so I would really like a clear and honest point of view.

  2. MM, there are a lot of horrible, jealous people in the world and when you have a blog, they all know exactly how to contact you!

You are NOT asking for money. You are selling your sketches -- original hand-made art (and pretty damn cheap if you ask me, too). You never ask for money, you sell your handmade toys and other items, which is what heaps of people do with their websites and blogs, and you state clearly what the money is going for. You're also offering sketches for people who donate to charity (which is a beautiful thing to do). What's more your website is covered with links to great causes and wonderful charities and you even state you're giving any money left over to various charities. We all know you're totally genuine, and we love Melvin, and your genuine readers will know that too. Don't give this horrible person another thought. If they don't approve of your blog, they don't have to read it.

  3. MM, so many people do that to others. I know on Craigslist people slam another for asking for help. I mean really..there are petty, rude people out there and if they don't like your blog, then don't read it, if they don't like your sketches, then don't buy them. Just shake it off, consider the source of some nasty little person and don't let them get to you. ((MM))

  4. What JCat and CM said. That person, and people like it just don't deserve your time and energy. Please don't give this person any more free rent in your head. Many hugs to you!

  5. Thank you so much.
I've just been a mess, lately, so I guess I'm letting things get to me a bit more than usual.
I completely understand that a lot of people are hard up for money, and I will be more than willing to help raise money for them, as well.
I just really worry about a lot of things.
And don't get me started about Craigslist people! I've been trying to find a good sibling for Melvin and have had to wade through all the idiotic rants and bashing. People are so mean!

Also! I was wondering, after all is said and done, because I've been thinking about this for some time, if maybe we can start some sort of fund project for different kitties in need. I was thinking something sort of like the NZ Top Cat Model where everyone can join in and raise money. What do you all think?

  6. MM you can not let some petty person get to you. Please ignore these hurtful remarks and know that there are a bunch that love you! Not to mention you are selling art--no one is forced to buy them! Melvin is a little beauty!

Seriously, I am amazed at how much all of you mean to me.
    You're like my family!

  8. MM, never... not once, have you just "asked for money". I'm so sorry that happened to you. The sketches are wonderful and certainly worth purchasing. Please don't let some disgruntled person get you down. How sad that people can be so small.

  9. Unfortunately there are mean hurtful people in the world. Like JCat says you are selling sketches not asking for money. You are a creative entrepreneur. Ignore the trolls hiding in their darkness and spewing venom.

May I suggest changing the way you write out your email address. For example yourblog AT yahoo DOT com. This will help prevent trolls from sending those blanket comments to you. You probably already know you can review your comments before they get posted. It doesn't seem fair because you are doing things the right way but you have to protect yourself.

  10. There are more nuts on the net than anywhere---it's easy to sit anonymous and rant at someone. The h**l with them, you did nothing wrong!

  11. I agree with whats been said, people on the net can be down right mean. Because the majority off mean people are insecure, and when they can hide behind a computer, they feel they can get meaner. It's kinda sad in my opinyion.

  12. You've done nothing wrong, MM. You've set a great example to others by your efforts to help at your local animal shelter by blogging, volunteering your time and by donating money from your cat toy sales. Your blog, your rules.
