I don't know if ya'll have seen it on the news, but we are having massive flooding in the Atlanta area. There are areas of Austell (where Dragonwing lives) with subdivisions underwater and a house on fire that firemen can't get to. Only a few miles from me, people are being evacuated in boats! It just keeps raining and raining and won't stop until Thursday. I'm ok so far, but this afternoon when I made a provision run to the grocery store, upon starting for home saw that the lake on both sides of the road had risen to the same level and was about to flow over the road. Within a half hour of my getting home, I heard they closed that road due to flooding. There are over 100 roads closed, three people have died including a toddler. Please keep us in your prayers.

Dragonwing called me a couple of hours ago; I've been out. He had to leave Austell with all 7 kitties and take refuge with his daughter in Doraville. (North of Atlanta)

Wow CW...I know exactly how your feeling. When we had our 100 yr. flood in 1997, so many people had no chance to safely evacuate. Many lost their pets. The farmers lost alot of their cattle. A friend of mine had to leave his 2 cats behind because the levee broke right in front of his house & the waters rose. When things settled,we boated out to his house & collected 1 of his kits but,the other was too scared & took refuge inside an extra boat he had tied to the top story of the house(smart cat). We left plenty of food & fresh water & kitty was okay when we returned again.
I hope you have all the needed carriers & provisions in case they evacuate you. At that time, all the motels let us keep our pets in our rooms. One family had 4 dogs & 6 cats.
Many Prayers being sent your way that you don't have to leave your home & you,the kids & furbabies will be safe. I also Pray that Dragonwings home will be spared from the flood waters.Thank God the kitties & him are safe. -
Prayers and wishes of safety for those in the flood waters path.

The rain has stopped, but it will take quite awhile for the floodwaters to disappear, and there is a 40% chance of more rain. The death toll has risen to 6. My county and those surrounding are in a state of emergency. Please keep my friend's cat in your prayers. The family fled to Tennessee and couldn't find the cat before being evacuated. They are praying that she is on the second floor of the house where the water didn't reach. Her name is Moo Moo Kitty.

By the way, I'm not sure how Dragonwing managed to evacuate 7 cats and himself in his Yaris! How did he fit them all in there? I would have had to wait it out with my crew, since I don't have enough carriers for 10 cats and one elderly incontinent dog. I don't think I could fit everyone in my Jeep, (have the boy to fit in there as well) but I guess if an emergency called for it we would all squeeze in. My three outdoor cats would be VERY unhappy!

Many many prayers to everyone in the flooded areas and to all the animals, May they be safe and dry and be with their owners soon.

Man...that story definately brings back awful memories of our flood.
CW...if your friends cat did indeed make it to the top story of the home & she has some kind of entrance to the home, she'll hopefully find food to sustain her till boats can get in to rescue her. There were alot of pets saved after our devestating flood. And w/the help of the Army & other services, your friends pet,Moo Moo Kitty will be fine.
Tell your friend to Please not give up hope of finding Moo Moo Kitty. Sending Prayers for everyone in the path of the raging waters to be safe.

Another link. The woman who was swept off the road and killed was a local Realtor. The woman raging in front of the bus about school being open yesterday (then having to be evacuated) is in my district. I did not send my son to school yesterday, since it seemed beyond all logic to put my child on a school bus during flash floods. This was a good lesson for him--don't trust the government (or anyone else) to make decisions concerning your own wellbeing. Look at the facts and decide for yourself!

CW...that link was definately sobering. I feel so bad for all those in the path of this.
With waters that high, I noticed the lights on in the stores behind the guy casting the news. Is it just me, or does that seem dangerous that the utility companys has not shut off the electric? -
Oh Deb I'm praying for you all there and for MooMooKitty! ARGH! This has to be SOOOOO stressful & frightening for you and everyone in the area! Oh....my heart goes out for the loss of the toddler *SOB* and the others who have perished. =(
Dragonwing...if you are reading this..BE CAREFUL!! You're in my prayers! =( -
Susie, I think they are hoping that Moo Moo Kitty was inside the house at the time and hiding on the second floor. The bottom floor was flooded. If she got outside, hopefully she was able to climb a tree. I think cats are better able to save themselves in disasters. When my cousin's house burned down, he lost all of the dogs but all 3 cats managed to get themselves out. He assumed they were lost and was very surprised when they came home!

Deb-How close are you to being in danger of the flooding? Hopefully you and your family are high and dry. Know that you have lots of TDK prayers coming your way.

Hi folks, Yes CW I did manage to get all 7 cats and Rusty and I out in the Yaris. I left about 7PM yesterday. I went back last night about midnight and it was up to within 20 inches of the floor of the house. The three houses across the street were under about 4 feet of water. By this morning it had dropped a little from the high point about a foot or less from my front door. I have some pics of the neighborhood I sent karenopa with hopes she may be able to post them somehow. We will be here for the next day or two. Anyone want some waterfront property that is so exclusive that you can only get to it by boat? Still 3+ feet of water on the street.
