  1. Last week at work sucked, it was busy and I found one of the tests was not working. After following the instructions in the manual for the machine I ended up spending 2 days on the phone with the company only to find out that the lot of the test is under investigation and will probably be considered to be a bad lot. So I got to drive samples to another hospital lab so that the doctor could have the results that night. the woman getting the treatment was back tonight and I got to drive her samples again because I havent recieved the new lot of the test.
Ontop of it being the begining of school and flu season we have the competency survey in (we get these quarterly to make sure that we are reporting out correct results and everything in the lab is in compliance) I got serology this time, so I have been running lots of latex reagent tests for diseases like syphillus, mono, rubella, etc. I got most of it done tonight and found one test that expires on Wen so I left a note that it needs to be ordered. The girl doing the chemistries this time is finding that it is a huge task(I complained a bunch the last time cause of how much work you have to do and you cant miss any tests and you have to make sure you put enough sample in to run all the tests.
Like most of last week I didnt finish my clinic work till well after 9pm and it just gets exausting after a while. All I did this weekend was sleep, I didnt go to the grocery store or anything. All I would like is one slow week before flu season hits in full force cause I think this year is gonna be a bad one, I can just feel it in my bones. All the people who just cant scrounge up $45 for the clinic will be comming into ER with their flu symptoms and other problems that are not emergencies.
BTW I do love my job and most of my patients, but I just get tiered sometimes
Oh yes all the cats and dogs are doing well and send thier love

  2. Are those tests like a quality control type of test Ale. We used to do them regularly, we received a sample to test through all our machines and reported the results back to the company and later on received a report back on how accurate we/our machines were. I say we as back then we were still doing some test by hand. The boss was always tense during quality control time but we always got results that were very accurate. I was in Biochemistry and it did involve heaps of tests for us.
Just hang in there Ale, cuddle the furkids for stress release.

  4. TKN, I hope the deluge is not as bad as you fear and hope you get a wee respite before it but if not, MS and Deb are right on the nail, just keep hanging on in there and spend as much time as possible cuddling the babies. Sending you loads of TDK strength to help!

  5. That means you found your baby!! I have prayed every night that she would come home.

Sorry for the work aspect--I can not imagine the work load this time of year! As soon as the weather changes everyone gets sick. Please know that I am thinking of you. And I sure understand the love of ones work, yet the overwhelming demands at times. Prayers of strength and peace to you!

Looking at a Lubbock trip in November--after band competitions!

  6. No matter how much you love your work, there will always be a time or two that becomes frustrating. Just remember that you are doing your best and some things are beyond your control. Hang in there!

  7. Yes MS its an outside quality control test. If we dont pass certain parts, say like in bloodbank we cant do that test until we pass a proficency. There are still a number of tests done by hand, but alot are on machines now. All the chemistries are on machines now. We do bloodbanking by the test tube method not the gel method. I did the bloodbanking portion on the first procicency survey this year and the chemistry on the second.
My biggest problem with the upcomming flu season is that I work the second shift by myself and when it gets busy and I have draws in ER the on the floor and in LD it is really hard to get my work done.
Yes SM I did get Tita back, we found her at the pound on Sat. She got her rabbies vaccine(it was one day overdue) and mocrochipped by them. I was just glad to get my baby back

  8. OMG...TKN I got tired just reading your post...Please keep an eye on your own health, keeping that kind of schedule is too much on your immune system, but you already know that!!!

  9. TKN...Loads of Sunny California(triple digit) weather being sent to you to keep the flu season from hiting so hard. I'm 1 of the unlucky that can't get a flu shot (allergic to eggs). I'm so aggressive at being careful not to contract it. I think I will be investing in several cans of 'Lysol' tho. It seems Mr.Useless here doesn't know what soap & water are. I'll be spraying alot of doorknobs & surfaces. The kits are cleaner than he is. lol.

Ale...Please be sure & get enuf rest & nutrition in you so you don't get sick yourself. I hope I don't sound like a Mom to you. You've already got a beautiful one there. :)

Sending you good thoughts and many prayers for strength and courage!!!! Hang in there kiddo...What doesn't kill us makes us stronger!!!! =D

  12. I will get the flu shot as soon as the hospital has it. They provide it for all the employees who can take it. I will also be employing the masks made available by the hospital this year.
THough I am only working 3 days this week on thur I am going to waco to a conference and then sat I go to austin to pick up WeeOne's half sister Flagpole(my sister and I came up with some strange names for the family cats that year) to take over her care. She is hyperthyroid too, but is in much better health than Weeone was when I took over her care. Then Sunday I come back to Lubbock to be back to work on Monday

  14. She is a long haired orangei. She has the redhead attitude too.
My mom told me that she was acting like a crazy cat on monday. She demanded that my mom let her in the bedroom and then a min later wanted out and ran like crazy all through the living room and kitchen and came back wanting into the bedroom and repeated this for 4 more runs and then gave my mom a very satisfied look. I am not taking her buddy though, he is a siamese mix that my mom found as a kitten. He was maybe one or two days away from starving to death when my mom found him. He had a really bad upper repiratory infection and she force fed him till she could take him to the vet that following monday. She nursed him to health, but he did suffer some brain damage from starving at such a young age and he HATES me. If I dare go near him he will start hissing and try to attack me. He also attacks and harrasses my mom's other cats but they usually will turn and bust his butt. When he first got healthy he would run up behind Hillies(my elderly lady dog) and attack her and when she would turn to look at who was attacking her he would hiss and run away. THen he would comeback and do it again. Poor Hillies just would sit there and let the little kitty do this over and over giving him her worried looks

  15. Oh no I wouldn't take him either he's a bully,poor Hillies.
