Poor Kitty, just another thing....

(8 posts)
  1. She seems fine, but I saw a very small amount of blood in her poo today. She has been having a little bit of diarrhea and has decided she doesn't want to go in the litter box, lucky me. anhyoo she was in the bathroom and when I went to clean it up it had just a little bit of blood. She isn't outside at all so I dont think it's worms or anything, could it just be because I'm trying to get her off of wet kitty food onto dry? Like I said it wasn't very much otherwise I'd rush her off to the vet, but I was just curious as to why and also why she decided she doesn't want to use her box anymore...

    Thanks!

  2. Hi, Samye, sounds like a vet visit would be a good idea. If she has a urinary tract infection, she might well be avoiding her litter box because it hurts her to go there and she associates the pain with the box, so is going elsewhere to try to escape the pain. So, together with the blood, a vet visit asap is definitely in order. I don't want to worry you but blood can be a serious symptom. Poor little mite. Let us know what he/she says.

By the way diarrhoea is not good for a kitten either, they can dehydrate very quickly. So that's three reasons to check it out...

  3. I'm worried about going to the vet because we don't have very much money. All the vets I've gone to in the past don't even consider working with someone! :( I've asked and they are so mean about it, and I've got out as far as I can for milage.... She doesn't seem to hurt when she goes I just wish we had a nice vet around that wasn't so expensive :'(

  4. I totally understand and (I'm in NZ) I can't believe how expensive some of your vets in the US are. Maybe some of the other TDKers in the US can help with advice on insurance and that kind of thing.

The trouble is, from what I've read, blood in the stool could be a minor gastro thing or a sign of worms, it could be more serious or it could be very serious indeed and without seeing a vet, you won't know which . And tiny kittens like yours are so fragile, they can go downhill very quickly, and yours is only four weeks old. I wish we had a few friendly vets on this site but unfortunately none of us are vets, so all we can do is advise you to see one. Best of luck. Hopefully, it will be something minor, and your baby will soon grow strong and healthy and then -- again hopefully -- you won't have any more bills, apart from spaying, for a long long time.

  5. I understand how ya feel. My cat Ricky had been having diarrhea for 2 weeks almost he had a little bit of blood in his stool and tiny on his bum. Poor guys. I took im to the vet today, the doc said he didn't seem to be in pain when he touched his sides and figured it was inflammation in the bowls. Either caused from bacteria or Stress.

I always been taking him to the animal hospital rather than our vet. I just like them a lot. I ended up paying 73.00$ total and taht's cause I ended up getting 2 things of frontline and revolution kit and some free cat wet food :)

We just got a new addition to the family 3 weeks ago and she has been chasing around and beating him up lol (this little kitten beating up a 9 pound cat)

Hope this helps, I know it's hard to want to go to the vet due to finances. This might be a different problem and might need some veterinary assistance.

good luck hope your little kitty feels better
