  1. Hello I am new to the forms. Seeing as this is a chat place about kitty cats I figured you guys may have some good advice or can help me be more at ease with using this product for my kitten.

I have 3 cats (poor things all have fleas and there indoor) We just got a new kitten I been giving her brushes 2 times a week and a bath every 3 weeks but it doesn't seem to be doing the trick.

I had to take my middle aged cat in (ricky today lol the little girl was stressing him out) I asked the doc about getting some front line for the adult cats and told him my kitten is getting badly infested, I think she is 2 months old now. He recommended and gave me revolution (selamectin)

I am a little concerned about putting this on her, I don't want her to have any problems. I don't want to lose another kitty :( Any advice or feedback on this product would be great

  2. Hi Angie...welcome to TDK! I have 4 indoor/outdoor cats and we've been very lucky (knock on wood) with fleas. There just don't seem to be too many around here. The little bit of trouble we have had seemed to respond to using diatomaceous earth. It's a white powder and comes in two grades 1)food grade 2) pool grade. You want to use the food grade. It can be found at nurseries and isn't very expensive. You rub it into their coats and can even sprinkle it all over your carpets and it will kill the fleas through suffocation. I personally am very nervous about using chemicals on my animals for flea treatment. In the past I've seen some nasty reactions on my dogs and just decided not to go that route when I got my cats. Hope you'll keep us posted on how they're doing with whatever treatment you choose. =)

  3. I have used Revolution in the past with no problems. I also use diatomaceous earth. It is truly a wonder powder for killing any insect with a shell. I rub it into their coats. However, for a bad infestation you may need the Revolution, because you are going to have to break the cycle. Once you are in prevention mode, you can use d. earth more. Good luck to you.

  4. RE diatomaceous earth - be sure to use the food grade. The pool grade can pose an inhalation hazard.

  5. It's good to treat the kitten with something, because fleas can be a health problem for little ones. They can become anemic, or get infected bites, or -this is really icky- they can get tapeworms. Yep, tapeworms are transmitted by fleas. Ick!

  6. Thanks for the warm welcome and thanks for the feedback. I just am a little worried with putting chemicals on a kitten I have front line which I herd is a great product for adult cats going to use it on them in a couple days. I am waiting to put it on them cause they had those crappy heartz flea collers that didn't seem to do anything. Heheh yea I had been fortunate with fleas too but my sister in law got them in her house and carried them over. Can't get rid of the buggers. Thanks if there is anymore revolution users please feel free to post your feedback. I am going to put it on her tomorrow in case anything goes wrong the vet will be open :)

  7. They have revolution for kitties over 5 pounds... If you have a young kitty that is probably what the vet wanted to give you. We had a litter of 6 week old kittens that were INFESTED with fleas. When they are so young it can be fatal. The vet actually used a watered down version of revolution on them and it saved them. They are all healthy cats now.

We use revolution on all of the furrballs. There will always be side effects with any medicine. You have to decide what you want to do. But I will say I have never had any problems. Revolution is great because it protects against fleas, heartworms, ear mites, hookworms, and round worms. If your kitty goes outside, it is a good thing to be protected against all of those nasty thing. Flea collars do have chemicals on them as well, remember. They release a insecticide. If you use revolution regularly you won't need the collars anymore.

In the end its up to you.

  8. We always had used frontline but were still getting ticks. We switched to Revolution for our seven kitties and we are glad they did. They really hated the frontline, would run around crazy for awhile after application and it made their fur icky. The Revolution doesn't seem to bother them at all, and it dries quickly without messing up their fur, and most importantly it really works on fleas, ticks and earmites. Very good product.
