  1. ok. so i have done a lot of research... talked to vets... rescue people yadda yadda.

i 4 two week old kittens right now. their mother died and i am doing the best i can.

they seem really healthy. the vet says they are healthy. but they dont poo. i have been doing the warm wet cloth thing. and nothing. they pee fine. no poo.

this is something they will get on their own eventually right? i can't imagine what i am doing wrong.

  2. Lauretta, it sounds like you are doing everything correctly. Kitties don't necessarily poop every day so don't worry about that. Keep doing what you have been doing and poop will happen. Click on the pink tags at the top right of this page and you will find links to pages that may help you.
You certainly have your hands full raising 4 two week old kittens, thank you for looking after them after their mother passed away. There will be others along here that can add more than me so keep checking back.
Oh, welcome to TDK, do come and chat with us, we love to hear about kits & cats.

  4. They will eventually :) it could just be that all they are taking in is liquid so they dont really have anything to poo out lol

  7. Hi LJ - welcome and bless you for the role you have taken on as a Surrogate Mama. I currently have 3 4-week-old kittens about to start weaning. I got them as fosters from the Humane Society when they were 3 days old. I started out with 5, one passed and another needed one on one care so she got fostered out as a singleton.

Poop will happen - sometimes it just takes some time. Try just using your fingers (gross, you can use gloves!) and just stroking on the sides of thier anus - thumb and pointer finger on each side at the same time. Always seems for me to get the stubborn poopers to do thier thing. But unless they are rock hard in thier tummies and haven't pooped in 4 days or so they should be fine. It can be the switch from mama milk to formula that seems to constipate some kittens.

theres a thing on the top right hand bit of this page about pooing think it takes you onto a demonstration of how to help your little ones poo on you tube(you tubes got alot of poo on it anyway lol) by a vet.

  9. I remember my first bottle babies. I was so nervous when they didn't poo right away. I think sometimes they just need to get comfortable with you. I found success with warm, damp paper towels. A lot of people use cotton balls, but a mother's tongue is rough. But be careful that their bottoms don't get raw. I tried and tried and then 2 days after rescuing them, SHAAZAAM! Poo!! I was never so happy to see poo in my life.

Good luck! Let us know what happens!

  10. I had a 4-week old kitten (Monty) once that didn't poo for 3 days. N he was a guzzler (this was before he was weaned of course). I panicked and ran to the vet who was not too concerned. He palpated Monty's intestines and said there was poo but it was soft and so I had nothing to worry about. He in fact told me to wait another 2 days and if he didn't poo even then, they'd put him on lactulose. The very same day he went like he never did :) So maybe u could ask your vet to teach u how to massage his tummy or palpate his intestines. It really helped me with the fella as he was a poor pooper.
