And Then There Were Three More

  1. Tonight I am getting three more cats. My cousin's nieghbors got kicked out of their house and left their three cats. One of them was a housecat and very friendly and the other two sound like they are very feral. The owner of the house said that if the cats were not gone by Saturday he was going to get rid of them himself...I can imagine what he means by that and don't want these cats to die.

Instead of them facing a death sentence (which I'd hate) I got asked to take them until their is room for them at the no-kill shelter. Hopefully they will be fine to get into the large dog cages I'll try get set up. The tame one as soon as there is a space will be going to the shelter and probably get adopted out at Petsmart. The ferals if they get used to the fact that there humans are gone and that someone else is going to give them food now might be adoptable. I don't know if they were simply attached to their previous owners and were friendly towards them but don't want anything to do with anyone else.
It could be that they are truly feral or that they are just scared of people they aren't used to. Only time will tell.

  3. They ended up only being able to bring two of the three. There is a trap set for the third but it hasn't gotten caught yet.

The tame one is a black cat and the second it got out of the cat carrier it turned into this blob of purring lovey cat. It got to go in the large cage by itself. Don't know if it is a boy or a girl since I didn't want to check it over to much since it is in a strange place.

The most feral one according to my cousin to me doesn't seem that feral. A feral cat wouldn't have been at the front of the large dog crate they brought it in meowing. It would flinch when it saw a person but this guy didn't. Instead of hiding in a dark corner of the crate it was front and center...that to me doesn't seem feral. Its ear were perked up and I've taken care of true ferals when they are at the shelter for TNR. They hiss, growl, have their ears flat against their heads, and are ready to attack at any moment. I think that once this cat settles in it could be a friendly cat, maybe not a lap cat but still could be adopted. btw, s/he is black and white.

    and thanx jcat :D

  8. thats brilliant i'm so glad you rescued them its a fantastic feeling to save a life, you never know you might even get attached and want to keep them that would be really special, do you have cats already? how old do you think these cats are? xxx

  9. I have no clue how old they are and if the are boys or girls. Lol I already take care of 26 cats so even if I did get attached to them I'd think they would do better in a house with more attentin especially if they are really love people.

  10. You're so awesome FF50! I think you're right about the feral. There's much hope for him I'd say. I pray the third one is found and safely transported to you. You're such an Angel for helping these poor kitties. =)

  11. Well, they brought the third one this morning - very lucky cat. the neighbor gave my cousins a few extra days but if they didn't get the cat by tuesday morning (today) he would still go shoot it. So he was caught just in time.

This one is eartipped and is a really beautiful cat. S/he is also black an white. He was talking to me the whole time I was working with getting food in his cage and then covering it, he finally stopped talking once the cage was all covered.

The other black and white feral that I have had for a while isn't tame but still isn't feral really. S/he is eating twice as much as he should be, but since he probably hadn't had a good meal for a long time I'll let him.

The tame black cat thinks that she and only she is the queen. She is very tame (purring, kneading, rubbing against you) until she sees another cat. Then she turns into some completly other personality. Hissing, spitting, and clawing me the best she can. I think someone needs to be an only cat ;)

  12. FF50, I have to agree with everyone else, you truly are a remarkable young woman and an inspiration to your generation :o)

PS did you see the thread Eleniki started asking you a question about raw feeding? - was a day or so ago.
