One of Andi's best friend just lost her Mom tonight. A month ago this young lady had to put her mother in a nursing home because she was not equipped to care for her. Tonight at 17 she is making funeral arrangements. Her older brother got home this afternoon, but he isn't coping well. I was told that her mom was taken to the hospital and in bad shape. We decided after the show to take kids up there. We were packed in the front of the hospital. Everything seemed to be going better than in the afternoon. She was so tired--all the kids were, so we said see you in the morning and everyone started heading home. I got home. Sat down at the computer and began to catch up on threads. The call came. She said everyone left, I walked into Mom's room and she died. She left too. I don't remember the color of traffic lights, they may have all been green. I know I make a 15-20 minute drive in under 10. They are clinging to each other. A dear friend and I started ushering everyone out when the funeral home gurney arrived--I don't want any of them to see her in a body bag on a gurney. Andi keeps saying if we had only stayed for five more minutes we would have been with her. This girl is the heart and soul of that color guard--the band is devistated. I am utterly shocked that not a single band director came to be with these kids. This girl is now left with no parent at all. Her brother is a young man himself. My heart is breaking for this very shattered family.

Oh, SM, my heart goes out to this poor young lady! She will need your family to be strong for her. I pray that you will know how to help her through this terrible time. And hugs to you. It seem like it is pouring down on you right now. Please stay strong for yourself too.

Oh that is heart wrenching SM. My sincerest condolences to that poor girl and her brother. Hugs to you for helping them. You have a lot on your shoulders. Wow. How sad. Maybe the Mom didn't want them to see her die and so she waited till they all left. How very sad though.

Her Mom died when we left the hospital. We left so she could sit with her Mom some more. She walked into the room and within 2 minutes her Mom died. Her brother was with her and her uncle was there, but all the kids had just left. The kids never went into the room with her Mom. They all gathered at the main waiting area at the front of the hospital.

Where do you begin when something like that happens to a young woman SM. Sounds like she has had to Make some very big and difficult decisions lately. Condolences to her and her brother, they'll both need lots of support right now and knowing what you are like you and your daughter will be doing that.

Oh SM, this is so horribly sad and heartbreaking. It's hard enough to lose your mom, but do be alone with no other parent and to grow up and make decisions that you should not have to make so young is devastating.I pray for her to have the courage and strength to get through this and for her life ahead. I am so sorry.

What a terrible tragedy, I can't even begin to imagine. I'm glad the girl and her brother have a large group of loving friends, especially your Andi, she will be a tower of strength I'm sure.

Thank you all for the prayers. Have been up since 5:30 this morning cooking--what I do when I don't know what to do. KW she does not have a stable home life at all. Her older brother did all he had to do to get out. A family from the church is going to take her in for the time being. I have to say that Andi was most concerned about the family situation. It has been very bad for some time. I think there are enough people that want to help. Now the focus will have to be getting her through school and off to college.

Wow, SM, what a horrible, sad, tragic story! It brought tears to my eyes reading it. Some folks just don't have any breaks in this life and it seems as though Andi's friend is one of them. God Bless Andi for being a friend and you for being there as well. My heartfelt prayers go out to this family who will have to endure some difficult times and decisions in the near future. Thank you all. Last night a bunch of the kids got together and watched a movie. They were at another house. Andi said that J was doing okay. They all made dinner and took it to her last night. They got her to eat. It was almost like a movable party--they were house hopping. The funeral is set for Tuesday. I will ask for time off, it will be really difficult.
