  1. Gosh, Dad, today is your birthday. The first time in my life you've ever had a birthday and not been here to see it and celebrate it. I really miss you, you were such a good dad and such an awesome friend. I want to thank you for my sense of humor. I can't believe you're not here anymore, I keep thinking that this time last year we got to see each other and celebrate your special day. I keep wondering now who will guide me and give me advice that I can really count on. I keep wondering now what we'd do to mark your birthday if you were still here. Maybe we'd go out to Saltgrass and have a nice big steak. Or maybe I'd cook dinner for you. Or maybe we'd just sit around and talk like we used to. We always used to have stuff to talk about all the time. You were so interesting, you'd been so many different places and met so many interesting people that your advice was always good advice, even if I didn't think so at first.

So Dad, here's to you. I will always celebrate this day as your day as long as I live. I love you and miss you. It's just not the same without you.

    Much love from your daughter,

    xoxoxoxo

  4. (((((HM))))) Birthdays are hard. I just passed the 13th anniversary of my mom's death and it's still hard.
Are you doing something special today in honor of your dad?

  5. Thanks you guys. ((Beth, 2B, GD))

It is hard, GD, I've been on autopilot since April 13 and something has got to give. I know he would want me to be strong and not mopey though so maybe that's part of it too.

Me and the girls (my sister and my niece) ARE going to Saltgrass this evening. I'm going have the biggest ribeye I can find. He loved his steaks, ya know. And maybe a nice cold beer.

  6. HM that is a wonderful way to celebrate his birthday. This year on Rons dads b-day (he passed on Easter Sunday this year) we went to one of his favorite resturants and had pork chops which was his favorite!

  9. {{{{{{{HM}}}}}}}} Although I never met your dad in person, I know that he must have been a very special father and a very special man. I know that because I am so happy to call his very special daughter "friend".

Sending up birthday wishes and love to your dad.

Happy Birthday to your dad. He lives on through you and your sister. Celebrate the wonderfulness that was his spirit and how blessed you were to know him. He gave this world, you, and for that I am thankful. Much love to you and your family and to your Dad, who I know is watching over you and the boys.

  15. Beautiful tribute HM. I fully understand the auto pilot. I was stuck there for a year after losing my Mom... it's only been 16 months. It's a slow process and everyone deals with it differently. ((HM))

  19. Happy Birthday Dad! Cheers and a steak in your honor! Well written HM, have missed having you around lately. Have always kept you in my thoughts and prayers. You are a really special person who I am sure is that way because of your dad. I know what you mean, birthdays are hard after they are gone. Dad's birthday just passed and its been nine years. It reminds you no matter where you go, what you do, or what your age, they are always your PARENTS. It is hard. We celebrate the day each year with a carrot cake and coconut icing, his absolute favorite (NEVER waivered year after year after year....). Many hugs your way! Hang in there friend, know your family here loves you. Scritches to those lovely boys of yours!

  21. ((((HM)))))) We always celebrate my brother's birthday. Its a good way to remember him and we feel that we are celebrating his life and the short time we had him. The first year is the hardest. I called it all the first times without him... It does get better in time

  22. My heart broke reading this and then realizing that I didn't call my Dad on his birthday. I wish there were words to help, but there really aren't. You miss your Dad. Please know that he loves you and will always be watching you!
