  1. I just got off the phone with my niece and she is 39 and diagnosed with Lupus a few weeks ago. I was wondering if anyone knows any good publications she can read or anything she can educate herself with. She has some info from friends, but I am sure all info would be welcomed. Thank you :)

I'd start here. Lupus can be anything from just a word to very scary. Your niece is on the late side of the usual age of onset for diagnosis. This is usually a good sign for milder symptoms.

    I wish her luck.

  3. Thank you Ailuromaniac. She said she wants to educate herself and I think the more info the better. She has been suffering with this for years and they just diagnosed her.

  4. CM, I'm so sorry that she has gotten this diagnosis. The main thing in the management of lupus is to establish a relationship with a physician that she trusts, and to be pro-active in the treatment of the disease. Here are a few additional sites that might help.

  5. Oh thanks WWM.
She is just in a angry state right now..she has Kaiser, since my nephew works for the city and she doesn't even see the same dr all the time and they missed this RX for years. She called to make an appt with the rhumetoligist(sp) and he's only in once a week so she can't even see him till November.

  6. CM, I'm so sorry to hear this news. Sending her good thoughts and hoping the rheumatologist can see her sooner.

  7. My step sister and step brother's father died of complications of lupus. I remember the day that he moved out west to a dry warm climate in Arizona. He lived with the illness for many many years. Lupus can be very scary, but it can be managed. My prayers of strength are with your friend as she learns more about this illness. A good doctor she trust is worth their weight in gold!
