seems this is a popular topic. we found her yesturday around 4pm we have had some pees but no poop (unless she did it and ate it? do cats do that?) I have never delt with cats before so Im pretty clueless. I called a vet and she said not to worry at this point.. but I am worried. she is active and playfull, eatting, jumping trying to get strings etc. she has some gunk on her face close to her eye stuck in her hairs im affraid to mess with it much.. her eyes seem kinda floaty and un focused though we know she is seeing well enough to bat at strings.. any advice for me? I really want to see some poopies.. and just the gunk off her face. She is a long haired white cat with grey ears and paws.. no idea what type of cat she is..HELP

She sounds lovely. Any idea how old she is? If she is healthy and jumping around, you could give her a wee bath in Dawn to get rid of any fleas and help clean her up a bit but you would have to towel her off very quickly and well, to avoid her getting chilled. Or you could just sponge her wee face with a warm damp washcloth, if she would let you. If she has been drinking her mum's milk or has not had much food recently you might not see poop for a bit. (Click on the pink tags, poop and constipation, in the top right hand corner for more advice on these issues.) If you are feeding her kitten milk replacement or wet food, you could try adding a drop of two of vegetable or olive oil to her milk/food and see if that helps. But it is early days yet. If she is eating, active and playing, then she sounds in reasonably good health right now, just keep a watchful eye on her. Long haired cats need to be groomed (combed) every day so that they don't get mats but they are lovely.

Hi Teapots! is this a little kitten or a bigger kitty? It sounds like she is happy - eating and playing are two really good signs. And if she is using the litter box for pee, you will probaly find some poop there, too in a day or so. How much gunk is by her eye? If it is a little bit, it is probably normal - like us waking up with "sand" in our eyes. If she seems to have trouble opening the eye - or the amount of gunk increases, it is more serious.
Does she look like someone may have owned her? i.e. a lost kitty? Or is she a stray or a feral kitty?

she is little I assume 4-6 wks old, she weighs 9.6oz if that gives any indication to her age (I have a digital postal scale I am a wahm so its a handy tool more ways than one lol). I watched the "squeeze the poo out of Bru" video and I couldn't get it accomplished that way. I did just wipe and wipe her bum and put her in the litter box and let her play around in their a bit and started wiping more and the cloth had brown streaks so I assume it was some loose poo. she has peed some, once with stimulation but otherwise on her own. keeping her in a large box right now. I have 4 little girls who have never been around pets so I want to keep her safe til she is bigger and stronger. I think the eye issue was just some gunk that was stuck from being outside, we where able to cut the big chunk of it off the other piece is closer to her eye so we hope it works it self out. we are pretty sure she is my neighbors outdoor cats baby, who is a long haired cat that is all gray with white ears and feet, so its like the reverse. we couldn't find anymore babies but I think this little one might of strayed away or is the only survivor. Thanks for the advice. I'm going to try to get her to the vet just to have a good look over sometime this weekend.

Hi Teapots, she is adorable but so tiny. Kittens at this age are unable to regulate their body heat so she would need a heat pad set on low on half her bed where she could get off it if overheated. Either that or a hot water bottle. She would also need to be fed newborn formula KMR every 3-4 hours until she is growing and lets you know how often to feed her.
